TF lower winshield weatherstrip/seal ???

I bought these repro windows for my '57 and am ready to install them. I bought lower window seals too since I saw them in the catalog and figured I needed to have them.

I cannot figure out how they are supposed to attach. I'm totally confused. Are these these even needed?

Re: TF lower winshield weatherstrip/seal ???

Roger, I bought those also but didn't install them. It wasn't til afterwards I could see the need for them.

I believe the idea is they hold the glass into the lower frame piece. Then the extra flap is outside pointing upwards.

Once installed into the door and the window in the up position, the extra flap will help fill the gap between the window and the felt 'strip attached to the door.

Since the felt strip has to allow the upper part of the window frame to roll down into the door, the felt is not a real tight fit to the glass itself from the factory. With this non-tight fit and the window rolled all the way up, water can easily get through and into the door. Will the rubber flap wedging itself between the felt strip and the window, it can seal the gap better.

It certainly would help when good ideas are developed that they would put a simple explanation in the package when you buy an aftermarket part.

This as all my own assumption, perhaps someone else has a better view.

That looks like typical aftermarket molded rubber for glass installation. It's a generic replacement for the flat strips used by OEM. The excess is cut off in many installations. In some cases I've seen that extended flap left on in the hopes that it will catch the bottom of the glass opening and provide a seal but it often causes more problems than it prevents as it binds and puts pressure on the glass and regulator.

Re: TF lower winshield weatherstrip/seal ???

Thanks guys.

I guess I'm not going to use them then.

I'm not going to break the seals and take the frame apart to install them under the lower lip of the glass if that's what would need to be done.

Some water is going to get in there anyway. So what's the difference if it's a little more? It's still has to drain out the holes in the bottom of the door. Right?

Yes. Make sure the drains are clear and you should be good.
