Re: 1988 chevy resto project

They look good. When I can get some money I might look into it, but I haven't run my Trackers bald yet, and they're not even on the truck. I put 2000 Silverado wheels on my '88, and the Firestone tires that were on the wheels are still on it...except the front 2 are now flat lol. God I hate Firestone. I took my Goodyears off of the 4X4 wheels, and put low-profile tires on the 4x4 Chevy wheels and put them on my '86 Nissan lol. But once I Run those trackers bald I'm gonna look into some newer tires.

Re: 1988 chevy resto project

did you change that idler pulley on the tensioner to a 6 rib? looks like it.

Also that's weird because I got the exact same bracket setup but my tensioner faces the other side, and I changed mine to 6 rib. makes me think mines wrong or something.

Re: 1988 chevy resto project

after looking again it's a smooth pulley you got on it that's not gonna work right. For non a/c it's ribbed and looks like for a 6 rib and the rest of yours is 4 rib.

Mine had a/c on it before I changed it over to 6 rib non a/c

Re: 1988 chevy resto project

that's cool man yours works as is, it pushes down on the belt sdo the smooth pulley is perfect and works great. what size is your belt? i think it's supposed to be a 80. I wasn't sure I figured mine was wrong, but th eonly way for that would be wrong tensioner with the stud in the wrong place or hole in the bracket in the wrong place. I went by the compnine diagrams for belt routing and autozones part numbers for the belt size. with a/c is 88 and w/o a/c is 80 i think.

Re: 1988 chevy resto project

I think you might have done like me and put it around the crank wrong. I did mine that way when i rebuilt it, had a 78 or so belt with a/c and could NOt get one to fit with the tensioner pulley for the non a/c setup. I went on compnine and finally realized I had it wrong, I now can use factory sized belts that the local parts store pulls up.

http://www.compnine.com/index.php?u=...01&grouptype=B

check out the 2nd pic down on the left, that's the one you want or need to go by, but if yours works, no worries, as long as you know your belt size. Just make sure your water pump is turning the right way because it should turn reverse style for serp. setups compared to the old v belt setups that turned the same as the crank.

If you have a reverse flow pump and it's not turning the right way it can overheat, and vice versa, like if you have an ol style pump on it not reverse and you got the belt ran to make it spin in reverse etc.
