Nice work! Have you called inline tube for your brake lines?

Re: 1983 Chevy John Deere Re-power

We used a stock chevy master on my brother's V30 when we put a NV4500 in it. The master gave out after 3 months. We then went to a dodge master because we had a heavier than stock pressure plate load in it.

1983 Chevy John Deere Re-power

Big thanks to Ryan for recommending Inline Tube for my brake line kit on this project. I ordered an entire stainless pre-bent line set, with the stainless steel extended hoses, & the entire clip mounting set. They shipped the same day I ordered them! The brake line installation went very smooth & easy. I had to remount the proportioning valve to my fabricated front cross member, that took some time & adjusting. But we now have brakes! On to the next step... Thanks for looking & all of your kind comments!

1983 Chevy John Deere Re-power

Slow progress. After mounting the front fenders & hood, I discovered the water pump I had originally picked out for the motor will not work. The thermostat housing would not allow the hood to shut down. I was able to purchase a smaller reman John Deere water pump that bolted right up to this block. I also purchased a used thermostat housing off of a 4 cylinder Deere motor that was shorter, allowing hood to shut with no issues. I need to hang an alternator & power steering pump next. Thanks for looking!

It's all that stuff that can really put a snag in your progress. Nice solutions. It is looking nice!

Re: 1983 Chevy John Deere Re-power

This is the engine for a 2950 or 2955, right? It looks very similar to our 2750, just with the two extra cylinders.

Were you able to merely flip the exhaust manifold over, or did you do a bit of re-drilling?

How much does this thing weigh compared to a cummins?

What pump do you have on it? It looks like a stanadyne. I thought those would have come with a roto-diesel.

That engine was something like 95 hp in a tractor. Can you get 200-ish hp out of the thing?

1983 Chevy John Deere Re-power

I started this project when I was 16 in my Dad's shop. 11 years later, now that I live 2 hours away it has been a real pain trying to get any progress on this project. I recently purchased a property with a nice sized shop, So I loaded it up & took it home with me! Now I can really start making progress. Thanks for following along.

1983 Chevy John Deere Re-power

I decided to mount the power steering pump on the driver's side of the engine, with hopes of utilizing all the OEM hoses for the hydroboost & steering gear. In the end, I only had to have one hose custom made 4.5 inches longer for it all to work. The automotive V-belt pulley was for a 3/8 belt, & I could not locate a pulley that would work with this pump that was 1/2 wide to match the Deere harmonic balancer. So I had a machine shop turn out a hub for me that I welded to a 1/2 V-belt pulley

Next up - 4 inch air intake for the clean air entering the turbo charger. It was a tight fit, but I was able to sneak the intake under the steering shaft & bring it over to the driver's side fender. Eventually when I add the 2nd battery box, this may be in the way & I will have to change it up a bit, but it will work for now. Thanks for following along!
