62 C60 Clutch

We have a '62 C60 grain truck. We have replaced the master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder. Brakes work great but the clutch slave cylinder doesn't extend at all until the clutch about 1-2" from the floor. When it does move it only moves maybe 3/4" - 1". Not anywhere enough to release the clutch. We have bleed the line and no bubbles come out. It is a solid stream. The slave to clutch linkage free play is adjust about as tight as I would want it to be, maybe tighter. It is at most 1/4" anymore and the throw out bearing will be engaged. We have adjusted the rod from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder as far as it will go and stay threaded in the pedal. Any ideas. I purchased these parts from partsgeek.com

Master Cylinder P/N: 13-34404
Clutch Slave P/N: CS36124

Thanks

Re: 62 C60 Clutch

Do you have the org throw-out bearing arm with the two places for the rod? need to be inboard? You might try posting on heavy haulers on this forum.

Thanks. I didn't see that forum before. It should be on the inside but it might have gotten in the wrong whole when I put the slave cylinder on there. I will check.

Re: 62 C60 Clutch

did you replace the clutch? was it a kit? (presser plate/kit t/o bearing) there are different types. You probably already know this.

Didn't replace the clutch. Just the slave cylinder. The old one would fade and the clutch would release

Re: 62 C60 Clutch

You need to push the slave cyl rod into the cyl. till it bottoms out. Then adjust the rod till you get about1/4 in. freeplay between the rod & clutch fork. If that is not it then bleed the wheel cyl. You will still have air in it. Make sure you didn't adjust the master cyl rod out too much . It needs a slight amount of freeplay so the piston can return all the way.

Not sure how I can have 1/4" free play. This rod doesn't go through and connect to the clutch fork. It just pushes against it. The rod has about a 45 deg. angle on each side. I can try the other suggestion with pushing it all the way into the cylinder and bleeding as necessary. B

Push the rod all the way back in the slave cyl. & push the fork back enough totake up the slack. There should be about a 1/4 in. between where the wedge with the 45 degree angle contacts the fork. It has been a long time since I have been under one of these but there must be an adjust ment on the length of the rod. Like Sag says, a photo will help.
