Another Edelbrock EFI Question

I would like to see how others have installed their throttle cables for their Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 XT EFI conversions.

Edlebrock has ZERO information other than to point you to Lokar and BowTie. The main issue is that on the Pro-Flo 4 XT, the cable has to snake around the back of the intake (or under) and then along the passenger side to the throttle body.

For the life of me, I cannot understand what the logic was in having the throttle body actuator on the passenger side, when the cable comes out of the drivers side of the firewall.

The Ford #3818 is on the drivers side, so I know it's can be/could have been done that way. In fact, the "OEM" style Edelbrock Direct Port intake has the throttle body actuator on the drivers side. . . go figure.

The Lokar setup looks like a jerry-rigged set of cables, and BowTie asks that the intake be sent to them to ensure the installation is correct. Just what someone wants to do. . . spend $2,000 on an intake, then another $250 for a throttle cable setup that requires shipping the new intake across the country.

So, since Edelbrock can only point to Lokar and BowTie, I wanted to ask people who have installed the Pro-Flo 4 XT, to post their throttle cable installation and comments.

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

I used a throttle cable meant for a TPI Camaro. I found it easy to modify to fit the '72 accelerator pedal and it wasn't hard to rework the length to fit my manifold/throttle body.

I'll try and take a picture

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

or look at 1996-2000 L31 style 305/350 based vortec engine vehicles they had a long factory throttle cable .

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

I just got off the phone with Edelbrock Tech. I asked them why they didn't keep the throttle body actuator on the driver's side of the Pro-Flo 4 XT, like they did on the Pro-Flo 4.

Technical Answer:
"I don't know."

Again, I got a referral to LOKAR (and their cobbled up solution) or "you will just have to put something together on your own."

I want to pull the trigger on the Pro-Flo 4 XT but $2,000+ for an Edelbrock Manifold that doesn't even use OEM throttle body linkage?!

With my 700r4 trans, the throttle body linkage plays a critical role and if it's not dead nuts on (tension wise), you risk destroying your $4,000 transmission.

So now I have to run some cobbled up solution, from the firewall, around the back of the Pro-Flo 4 XT, bend it again and run it up to the front of the intake to the throttle body ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. . . and all this is supposed to maintain the constant tension the 700r4 requires.

This is how Edelbrock creates an EFI Solution. . . by making more problems you need to solve, than you started with? Hell, the Ford version has drivers side throttle body connections, so I know it could have been done. Talk about missing the mark.

Rant over. Looking for a different EFI Solution.

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

A picture of my cobbled up EFI.

Holley Stealth Ram manifold with 30lb mustang injectors mounted in a chinese ebay fuel rail, aftermarket throttle body, homemade harness all operating with a microsquirt controller.

A factory TPI throttle bracket bolts to the upper plenum and accepts the 4L60 throttle cable and, again, a modified TPI accelerator cable.

You may give Bowtie Overdrives a call in regards to the 700R4 question.
I also use the 700R4 and I'm sure they've seen this before.

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

It appears the Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT manifold uses LS-1 style throttle body mounting.

Bowtie Overdrives does have an article about mounting TV linkage to an LS throttle body

Fabricate it. It's not that difficult.

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

I don't think this should be a deal breaker at all. It would be a real shame if you go to a different brand just because of this. My .02 for sure jus sayin

Re: Another Edelbrock EFI Question

DO NOT pass up a great system just for the little bit of custom you will have to do . any bolt on part will require a tweak or small mod to be 100% for each application .

i use to have a holley sniper for 500 miles and i HATTED IT
fuel mileage sucked even with help tuning it .
throttle was stiff as hell from the 1:1 throttle linkage = all 4 barrels at 1 time open . why in the heck would you make a street use product with this combo i have no clue .
also lots of other things i hatted about it .

now my edelbrock pf4 has been 1000x better / smother / my foot & ankle love me for the better gas pedal feel / m.p.g is way up / big 7" tablet to watch and tune on . . . instant adjustments also .

think long and hard what you want or just live with what ya got that works now .
