Project: NO-LIFE,...

I guess it's time to post a build on my red '69 swb.
I purchased this truck around the first of January 2009. I bought it because it was a clean short fleetside truck. It's got a 292 6 cylinder and a powerglide transmission,... which I thought was kinda odd for a short wheelbase 1/2 ton truck.
Anyway,... I've been trying to use only parts that I had laying around, which includes robbing a ton of stuff off of my old '71 swb parts truck.
So far I purchased a nice used grill from member tcb-1, powdercoated headlight bezels from txfirefighter, and a bunch of misc. small parts from other board members. This truck is a perfect example of the deals you can find on this board. Well worth the $25 subscribing members dues,... for all the parts I have found on here.

The suspension is a 5.5"/7.5" static drop.
I'm using some swap meet '71-'72 McGaughy's drop spindles ($100), a set of $89 Summit 3" drop springs, and my old Belltech drop shocks from the blazer. In the rear I have a set of 6" ECE drop springs, ECE Super Track Bar, and ECE shocks and relocators from my '71 parts truck. I also made a set of 1.5" lowering blocks to get the rear down.
This weekend I swapped the alternator for an "internal regulating" off the parts truck. I recently purchased a new Optima battery for the blazer,... so the old AC Delco battery got swapped into the '69. The grille ($75)and swap meet front bumper ($20) got put on last weekend.

Wheels are a set of 7" and 8" 6-lug ralleys I had, with some Ebay centercaps. Tires are 215/70-15's and 275/60-15's for a little rubber rake.
I got the bed installed this afternoon, and took it for a quit trip up the road. (setting on a 2-1/2 gallon bucket. Ha)
The front a-arms are the old stock lowers and CPP uppers off of the blazer. All the tie rods, idler arm, etc. are new.
I've got a ton to still do,... but here's what it looked like when I started, (after a wheel change and minor clean up), and the "new stance" photos I took today.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

I really thought the rear would be lower.
I also installed a POL (Performance OnLine) bolt in c-notch, since I was adding 1.5" blocks to my 6" lowering springs.
Maybe it will come down a little more, after I get some miles on it.

Nate,... it's no where close to being road ready.
But at least I can move it out of the garage,... so I can work on the blazer if I have to.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

It did ok. The powerglide is not my favorite. I think I found my tranny leaks. (Rear tailshaft seal and the dipstick o-ring).
So the powerglide will stay for a little while longer.

Beer money, champagne looks...Hey, what do you think the rear ratio is with a pg. I couldn't imagine less than 3:73.

I've never checked. It doesn't have too much "off the line go power",... I would guess 3:08's.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

Much better.

I've never seen any 7" 6-lug wheels so that's cool to know about (learning something new each day means we're still in the game!). Since the PG is a bleeder, it makes that much more sense to upgrade to a used 200r or 700r4 tranny (gotta keep the theme consistent ).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Yeah SCOTI,... I had only one 7" 6-lug for years. I never could find another one to make a front set. Last year I saw two complete sets at a swap meet for a very reasonable price. I know where two more are,... but they are pretty rusty.
I think the original application was 4x4 Blazers/Jimmys from the 70's.

I would love to swap in a 200-4R, but I'm not quite sure about connecting the TV cable to the 292. I may just cheap out and do a TH350 swap. I'd really like to do a 454/TH400 transplant.

Hey Kevin,... your "LFD cab/bed lifting tool" has been a lifesaver for me. (or should I say back saver)
Anyone that has to do this stuff by themselves,... should purchase the plans from Kevin and build one of these handy lifting tools.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

Uh,... maaaaaybe!?!
It actually fits me. I don't do much else except work on these trucks. No other real hobbies. Unless drinking a cold Bud Light counts.

Tonight I spent a great deal of time cussing/changing my LH window regulator.
I had forgotten how much of a pain these are to change.
So I "googled" for some info,... and guess what,... it took me right back to this board for correct information.
Tomorrow night I will tackle the RH side. (Hopefully in half the time).

You guys with nice paint,... I don't know how you install the vent windows and door glass without scratching up the paint.

I've seen at least three trucks you have that would make for a nice high dollar build. Pick one..... And as far as "No Life", and all you do is work on trucks...I'm confused, is there a problem there? At least your hobby isn't needlepoint, or baking.

Keith, the truck looks awesome! Everything is right on, the staggered wheel size, the center caps, the tire sizes, and the fact that the front wheels don't stick out further than the rears. I wish more people would take time planning things before throwing parts on. Excellent job my friend.
