Just saw this again. Some damn good stuff in here. Thank You all! I have a couple. I change my own tires from rim to rim and as many as I have I could not afford to pay someone to do it. I had a Coats 40/40 in Cali but for now it is steel bars from Harbor Freight. Any way breaking the beads seem to be the most difficult part. I came up with a solution. I use the weight of the rear of my 70 4x4. I put a farm jack with a somewhat rounded piece of angle iron bolted to it for the bead of the tire between the hitch of the truck and the tire and jack it down. A bumper jack would work too. I can post a pic if someone is interested. Oh and to air them up I put a ratchet strap around the middle of the tread and make sure the valve stem is out. I have one of those air fitting that clamps to the stem and blows full pressure. Then a little shake back and forth til the bead catches and pop! Bubble balancer gets me close to a good balance.

What are you doing in Riverview , Wouldn't plant city be a better fit ? or maybe Apollo beach ?

Why? Actually in Brandon now. Just haven't updated things. I got tired of California with all their Rubicons and Hollisters and being able to swim across a river without being chased by gators.

Back to sand blasting, I like the results but it is a PITA, I worked on improving the Harbor freight cabinet like some others have. Cut a hole for a 5 gallon bucket in the solid side, added a 12" fan. blows across your work and out the door on the other side, removes the dust etc, instead of trying to use vacuum to collect it. I drape a woven filter over the open door, it drops about 1/2 the sand into a bucket on the ground. Here is the hi tech cardboard organizer, 5 mins to punch some holes and mount your bolts, etc...sand blasted, and primed. Chunks of cardboard do clog up the sand blast nozzle.

Notsolo, if you go to Home Depot and get a sheet of expanded metal mesh, and just screw your bolts and screws into it, you don't have all the cardboard gumming up the intake. Not as cheap, but works pretty good for the larger bolts and screws.

If you can't see it, take a picture of it with your smart phone.

The phone also shows details you don't notice otherwise and you can blow the pictures up.

It's great for stamped numbers.

When repainting your truck without pulling the glass you can use a glass tool to lift the edge of the rubber gasket and slide some 12-14 gauge wire under it giving you a clean edge to tape to and once the truck is painted pull the paper and then pull the wire out and you won't end up with tape lines on your rubber gaskets that look terrible , leaves a nice clean gasket against the new paint .

Don't throw those rechargeable tool battery tools away. Sometimes they have discharged so much that the charger doesn't recognize them. they just need a bit of a jump. I use jumper cables to a 12volt battery on my 18 volt Dewalt batteries. About 10 minutes on the 12 volt jump and bam the charger sees them now and charge away! Just bought 4 dead batteries (lithium ion) off fleabay for $22 delivered. Jumped them and they are fine. Normally about $50-$100 used.

Was this test done in the sixties? My frame is at least 10% weaker than new and I haven't even notched it yet...HAHAHA!

Used to back in the day,we would touch bumpers and use any available piece of metal to connect the positives to jump start a car!Except on positive ground Chryslers!
And,you could push start a powerglide car at 35 mph!

Yeah, that push start stuff on PGs stopped after '68. When I worked at a shop right out of the Navy in '76, the catering truck driver was complaining that his brother pushed him for a couple of miles, but his truck wouldn't start. I told him that the THM400 never did have a rear pump, so he was out of luck.

Use the electric tongue lift to break tire beads. Works like a charm if you have a heavy trailer like my camper.

I use my farm jack to break tire beads. I put it under my hitch of the truck. I bolted a piece of angle iron to the bottom of it and bent the two ends to the curve of a rim and just jack it up. I put a piece of plywood on the ground to keep the rims from scratching. Then use some bars from harbor freight to swap out the tires.

I was taught a cheap way to fix a bolt that needed to stay put when assembling it in the brakes on my 64 SS Impala but it will work on any type of bolt I guess.

I was doing the brakes on the Impala last week and had to pull the right rear axle out to replace the bearing. The bearing has a plate with 4 bolts and nuts holding it in place. The bolts are square headed and have the ends like a wheel stud. I had one that was spinning when trying to take it loose. The cheap fix was after I finally got them all out I took a cold chesil and redid the splines on them all. You don't have to do all of them but I turned the each bolt 4 times in the vise and made new ones in 4 places. It worked just fine. Didn't cost a penny.
The best part is I didn't have to wait on the parts.

This is for doing Upholstery work.
Purchase strong magnets. I use rare earth type. Use the magnets to hold upholstery in place when measuring, layouts or when installing. Works really good on holding masking materials when painting or spraying glue. Reusable again an again! Too many types of tape just don't hold worth a darn and tape has become obscenely expensive.

I'd never heard that some autos had the ability to push-start and others didn't. I figured it was difficult with any of them.

Is the Ford C6 capable of push-start? Reason I ask, is because I played around with this on a '81 F-150 with a C6. I've got a substantial hill near here, and would get all the speed I could at the top of the hill. Upon starting down, I'd kill the engine for long enough to lose all power steering(thus I knew the engine had stopped turning). I'd turn on the key in the hopes that it would start by the bottom of the hill. It never did, but I typically regained power steering near the bottom. Was that just my mind playing tricks, or is it possible that I was on the verge of roll-starting it? Granted, this was nearly half a mile of 50+ mph rolling downhill.

Someone who knows Fords will have to answer that. Sorry, I have no idea about the C6 having a rear pump or not.

I've used this wheel cylinder pin for years as my "dedicated fuel line plug". Works great on 5/16 and 3/8 fuel line. Does not leak a drop. The slot slips over our cross members and keeps the line out of the way while changing out fuel pumps. The slot gives you a good grip when your hands are covered with oil or gas.
