Smile 72 k20 Long Bed PROJECT: Lucid

greeting everyone. . . . . I am still new to the forum. never to early to start a build thread though. about a year ago I purchased a 72 k20 long bed. Knowing I was going to deploy I didn’t want to get to deep into the project. I will be heading home soon and I have a ton of parts waiting for my return. let me explain what I am working with.

body is mostly straight.
tired 350 motor, th350 trans, 205 transfer case.
4" lift in font 3" in back.
noisy rear-end and the spider gears are destroyed in the front.
the wood bed was replaced with plywood.

These pictures are from the day I bought it.

First and foremost, hope you make it back safe and in one piece! Thank you for your service. I know those five words sound very mundane but they sum up how the majority of this country feels and they are written with extreme respect! Your project looks like a much better starting point than most, good luck with it and keep the pics coming.

BLAZERMAN: she is a solid truck. only a little cancer on the rocker panels and outer floor pans. That will be one of the first things I fix. I am working on making it home safe. Okinawa can be a great place but it’s too easy to get into trouble. I hope he enjoys his stay there. I know I did.

Freakshow: I am doing my best to stay in one piece!!!! I know what you mean about having a better starting point then most. I have seen some of the builds on here and cant believe how much work is needed. After all is said and done its worth it. I will post more pics as soon as I can. I am trying to get my wife to send me some so I can post them.

Thank you both for the support. It’s the patriotic Americans such as yourselves that make me proud to fight for our country.

Looks like a great truck to start with. Looks like it's pretty straight. Thank you for your service.

Re: 72 k20 Long Bed PROJECT: Lucid

My wife sent me some pics of the rocker panels. They are worse then I remember. Still fixable though. the passenger side seems to be solid. I guess I will find out after I pull all the trim and matting out. the driver side needs some work!!

Re: 72 k20 Long Bed PROJECT: Lucid

Well I made it home safely. I am excited to be home!!!! I am sorry about the delay in a progress report. Since I have been home I installed a shackle flip kit, I built new front spring hangers for 52” springs, installed the springs, converted to cross over steering, last night I finished building the steering box brace. Today after I get some coffee in me I will try to do the floor pan and rocker panels. I will post some pictures later on today
