Questions!!!

Tons of googling with no luck on finding answers

1. Is it a bad thing that i can hear the starter winding down after the engine has fired up? It starts just fine every time....
2. I get a loud squeal when i put my truck in reverse and start turning, but only in reverse. Could my power steering pump be going out? fluid levels are fine...

Re: Questions!!!

I would guess that the starter is mounted too close to the fly wheel and probably needs spacers or shims to allow the gear to release from the flywheel once you let off the key. Not sure about the squeal in reverse, possibly a tranny problem. I have a 700r4 that is squealing and trying to figure it out. It started when I added lucas oil tranny treatment.

Well turns out the squeal was due to the motor mounts not being tight so the engine would move putting lateral tension on the belt causing it to squeal. Thanks P.O.! tightening those seemed to have helped with the starter too which is weird, im not going to worry about it though, still fires right up every time, and i always go by the rule dont fix what aint broke!

Re: Questions!!!

You gotta love a simple fix though. If the motor was moving then I hope your fan didn't mess up your shroud. Had a broke motor mount on my vette and every time the motor moved the fan hit the shroud and broke part of it. I'm with you on the starter, that is weird.

it started hitting it as i was pulling out of the driveway yesterday, but not bad, just shaved a little plastic off. the shround was loose too! spent a lot of time checking, replacing and tightening bolts yesterday.. had the same thing that happened to your vette happen to an s10 of mine. was wondering why it wanted to overheat all the time LOL
