Transporting a box. - HELP!!!!

I have the possibility of getting a short stepside for my truck. The seller wants it gone asap. I have the time.

What i need to know, is if anybody has hauled home a box like this on the back of a U-haul rental pickup!

How did you sit it up there? How did you support it? Strap it down?

Any pictures?

How heavy is a box like this? wood is still the floor.

I need to get this figured quick, any help would be appreciated.

They fit fine in a box truck. Two guys can pick it up but three or more make it much easier. Just put it up against the front wall and a strap across the back to keep it there.

Is the step side box wider than the interior of a modern pickup?

Do you mean stand it up on the front panel? turned 90 degrees?

I was thinking of 2 x 6's across the top of the uhaul, and sitting that down on it.

Just borrow a pick up from someone and lay 2x4 studs across the bed and lay the bed on those 2x4 's upside down and strap it down real good .Or borrow a trailer .

This where I am now, looking at ways to get a small flat deck trailer.

What is the weight of a box like this 300-400 lbs.

I have a Mazda 3, with a hitch. She who must be obeyed, has signed off on the the box, but not using the mazda.

This exactly how I moved a long bed home... other than it was my own truck.

u-hal has flat beds

U-Haul, Lowes & Home Depot rent flat beds or use a small uhaul trailer behind the Mazda.

Or take some tools & break it down to fit in a regular pick up.

What ever you do, do not haul the box with the bottom edge of the bedsides sitting on 2 x 4's. If you must support it in that way, flip the box upside down with the top rail of the box on the 2 x 4's.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but the box was sold before I could get to it.

CaptainFab, out of curiosity, could you explain why the box should be turned over? I would worry about rubbing the paint on the top rail.

The bottom of the box has no bends so it is straight metal. The metal will bend sitting on 2x4's. The top rails have bends to them which make the metal stronger and able to take that kind of abuse.

Many years ago, not thinking about what would happen, I hauled a bed upright sitting on 2 x 4's going across the trailer. By the time I go to my shop, the bedsides had huge dents in them above where the 2 x 4's were. Lesson learned. The top of the bed sides is much stronger and stiffer.
