Re: This is what happens when.

My wife loves the new GM trucks. She wants to trade her SUV for one. Did I say she wants to, I meant she's going to when she gets ready.

Re: This is what happens when.

See that? First they stopped making trucks for the common workingman. Then, feature by feature they get even more plush, wi-fi, look like a Camaro, and now we have come completely around to them being made for wives and metrosexual civil engineers!

Buy one and determine it is so ugly you can't stand it, so you buy another one in a couple years hoping for something better. Called economics.

Re: This is what happens when.

Sounds like what Microsoft did with ME/XP, Vista/7, and Windows 8/10. It's the next big thing! (but not quite stable). You get all the people that either don't know, or want the newest thing. Then a couple years later, come out with the decent and stable version. You get again people who want the newest thing, and people that have been holding out for something that isn't junk.

As Big Mama said, “don’t you buy no ugly truck!” She appeared in some Chevy truck tv ads in the 80’s.

Re: This is what happens when.

I drove by the dealer where I bought my first new truck 47 years ago and they had a Black 2019 3500 cab and chassis. I would drive it.

That's interesting Keith. I remember reading GM was bringing these trucks back (They stopped when they sold/parted with Kodiak or something???) That's clearly the 14-18 styling, so how long will those trucks roll with that styling?

I mentioned that to the salesman who showed up, and his comment was to lift the truck. Really, a new 4x4 that needs to be lifted before you can take it off-road?
When I bought my Suburban new in ‘11, I literally pulled in the driveway, pulled out the dremmel, and proceeded to cut off the 2” wide lower rubber chin spoiler. Wife came running out of the house yelling, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING??” Once I cut that lip off she understood. It looks 100% better, and gets compliments frequently. Haven’t noticed any difference in the mileage.

First thing I did with the '90 Blazer I bought new was pull that plastic chin off. It was notched out for the tow hooks. I said "Screw this junk!"

Re: This is what happens when.

I have expressed my displeasure with the appearance of the current crop of new trucks. But I will admit that as I get used to seeing them, they don't seem as bad as they did at first. Still not great, just a bit better.
I still think there are too many design elements at work on the front, making it look too busy.

Anyway I met one in this dark blue color this morning and it looked much better than I expected. I could live with it if I had to.

Just thought I should bump this thread and eat a little crow. They actually don't taste quite as bad as I thought they would.

EDIT: Thanks for the resize, Boog!

It wouldn't make sense for me to complain, by the time I can afford them I'm used to the looks or even like them. That medium duty truck though, wow what an improvement.

Re: This is what happens when.

I've always bought used trucks but that has nothing to do with the designs. I'm just not willing to pay the new prices and endure the depreciation afterwards. I'm frugal, not a tightwad.
As far as the designs of the new trucks are concerned I am realizing, as an older citizen, I am in a minority. The new designs are done by younger people for younger people for companies run by younger people. They are designing for the majority of buyers who are younger, I get it.
More and more cars and trucks are beginning to look more alike than different. I heard talk years ago of "world cars" and I guess that is what we are seeing happening. All brands used to be very distinguishable.
Hmff. As I get older it gets easier to write commentaries.

I know what you mean. I'll watch TV with my wife and some really stupid commercial will come on and she'll just look at me and say "Don't you say a word'.

My opinions seem to have worn out their welcome with her.

My neigbor Lady just bought a new one , sort of platinum silver in color ..4 door short box and I get to see it at least once a day drive by .. It is growing on me ,,I like it ,,but no more buying trucks as I am now car and trucked enough..
Quite the story of this Lady though,, her dad who passed some years ago had 3 Chevy dealerships around the state and she has owned 3 Ford trucks until just a week ago she bought this Chevy Truck.
