1970 hood question

Hello. All, I’m new to the board, and getting ready to start on a frame off on my low optioned 1970. I have a question about my hood, I have an arrow pointing to a cross member underneath. Is this cross member supposed to be actually adhered to the hood itself?

Thanks

Rob

Re: 1970 hood question

My '70 was not adhered in this area, when my body man redid the hood he added some adhesive in this area to help stabilize the hood surface. I used the foam strips under the ribs the same as they originally used.

Re: 1970 hood question

I would suggest some good silicon caulk under the ribs.Might not be original but I could never keep the foam under the ribs.

Re: 1970 hood question

Please don't use silicone, there are products specifically for this type of application. Silicone is for bathtubs.

And paint doesn't stick to silicone if you ever want to paint under side of hood black or body color

Exactly, keep silicone far away from anything you may want to paint. Even trace amounts of silicone will cause fish eyes in your paint. Also be careful of any sprays or lubricants that contain silicone.
