Re: 1950 chevy suspension

More specifically...where are you stuck..setting up 4 link or coilovers?..basic steps would be with the rear axle removed.. get your truck at ride height..get the axle where it needs to be front to back ,side to side ,up and down, and square with the truck..tack weld scrap metal from frame to axle to hold it in place..then set up your 4 link...bottom bar needs to be level,, top bar needs to have some downward angle towards the front...measure measure measure...and then measure some more...make sure everything is where it needs to be...then weld it up...on the sw or coil overs you need to know the compressed length at ride weight..we'll say its 12"???.. tack your shock brackets to the axle..make a couple of dummy shocks from 1" tubing with holes at 12" ..this should give you a idea where the top mount needs to be..you'll probably need to make a crossmember...get it all in place and welderup.. follow the same procedure for whatever type swaybar your using..once everything is in and welded up you can remove the scrap axle braces and install your shocks and you should be good to go..

Re: 1950 chevy suspension

Thanks that should help a lot when I get there but the tci instructions are terrible and they arnt even the right ones because they don't make instructions for 47-53 trucks or for 3/4 ton trucks so there instructions on what they say is bolt in (except for the axle brackets) are basically non existent. Anyways I think they may have sent the wrong bolts washers etc. for the shockwaves because I can't get them to fit correctly. That's why I was wondering if anyone had done it and had pictures of the setup.

Most guys would probably using the tapered 1/2 ton frame rather than the straight 3/4 ton frame. Your install is probably closer to what you would see in a 55/59 Task Force truck.
