And since I posted that, and I often end up being the odd man out it seems, I have never noticed a trace of white paint on any tow hook I've had. Either I wasn't looking for it and it was barely there or a huge coincidence based on all these examples. I've had my hands on a lot of these tow hooks.

I’m willing to bet that hooks on trucks with chrome front bumpers did NOT have white paint. Maybe the rule was white only if white bumper.

This is the $1 million dollar question and only applies to 72 models as this was the first and only year for factory installed hooks with a chrome bumper.

Note that post #1 shows white hooks with a chrome bumper on a 72 CST Blazer that was purchased new by the owner's father-in-law (it was repainted in another color) HERE. I took that photo in 2018 and tow hooks were listed on the SPID. I'd like to see more examples.
