Road trip time

Hi all, so if any of you have followed my build thread you know I put a few miles on my COE (over 36K now). Well it's that time again, I will leave Wednesday of next week and make a blast to Oklahoma for my daughter's wedding. A blast, as in 12 hours. From there it's up the road to southern Colorado (which is where the truck came from) and then to the Denver area. So that takes me to around Tuesday of the following week. From that point on I'm open to suggestions. What I'm looking for is cruise-ins or car or truck get together. If you want to take a good look at the COE and don't mind seeing a few bugs still attached to the front, just post whats going on in your area and if it's close to on my way I'll do my best to stop on by.

Be sure to post plenty of pics of your trip.
Give an idea of what routes you're taking. (Oklahoma is a big state)

Re: Road trip time

Not a car thing but I did the Denver to SW Colorado and other places a couple of weeks ago and took time to stop in Durango, CO and ride the Durango to Solverton narrow gauge railroad. It is a stunning ride and worthy bucket list stop if you have time. They have a web site for reservations and they are very busy this time of year. Give it a look.

Re: Road trip time

I'd done too many but never been fond of those long day long miles in a day road trips. Too much all driving and no looking or seeing. I'd vote for taking some time and doing some two lane roads and stopping for lunch at the cafes you see a bunch of pickups parked around and enjoying the trip.

On our way to Wichita a couple of years ago the best road trip day was when we took off 80 on 183 went down to Phillipsburg turned on 36 drove to Smith center where we had lunch and ice cream at Jiffy Burger and turned south hitting 70 close to
Wilson lake and cruising on o Salina to spend the night. Lots of round hay bales, grain being harvested and interesting little towns along the way. Sure beat the trip back from McGregor Tx where we blasted across west Texas and New Mexico trying to get as far as we could that day to have an easier time getting to Las Vegas the next day.

Now have fun and take a lot of photos to share with us who won't get a good road trip in this year.

Re: Road trip time

Mr 48 I'm with you 100% on taking back roads. I don't care for interstates one bit. In this case I will be solo for the ride out so Interstate makes sense. Now after a hard push on day one the rest of the trip will be on back roads with my wife. We do this 1 or 2 times a year and for the most part we have no real plan. For this one it's a little more planned due to a wedding and visiting family out in Colorado.
Speedbump, good advice, I used to live Colorado and have been to Durango and the western slope a few times, Cripple Creek oh yea!!!
Pictures? yeah, I can do some pictures.

Re: Road trip time

"Give an idea of what routes you're taking. (Oklahoma is a big state)" Bill it looks something like this: 11,85,20,22,40,540,112. ending in Poteau OK. Now after Poteau Lamar CO., Denver, Wichita and who knows?

This for sure!

Road trips in an old truck in one thing - in a COE is a whole other level!

Hat is tipped and looking forward to following the pics!
