Will a NP 205 from a Ford work?

Title pretty much sums it up. I currently have a np 203 in my 76 K10, but i'd like to switch to a 205. Found a free 205 but it's from a 77/78 Ford, with a 196 ratio and I wanted to know if this would work for my truck and what adapters or mods would need to be made. I've got a TH350 at the moment and I'm not sure what transmission the Ford had.

Well, first thing you'd need is a Ford front axle since the driveshaft in front is on the left

Dont' think it would work on a married set up, but if it was divorced the input could be swapped with the front output to make it a pass drop case. But not with what you have. Good for the 32 spline front output, bout it really.

With out changing front axles it wont work.Ford is a driver side drop while gm and dodge are a passenger side drop tell you get in the modern stuff from gm.

Re: Will a NP 205 from a Ford work?

I'm not up on 350 with 203 and 205s, but you might have to find a complete 350/205 setup. I think the output shaft between a 203 and 205 version of a 350 have different lengths. But, I've never messed with one, so hopefully someone else has the info....

Definitely best to buy trans/t-case combo. They don't go for a whole lot and you get it all.

Re: Will a NP 205 from a Ford work?

I did the swap years ago that you want to do, I did this in my '74 chevy K20 , I found a trashed '72 blazer cheap. Easy swap, I was even able to swap the yokes from 203 to 205, because my 203 had bigger yokes because being 3/4 ton , find a donor truck, you will need the trans case, adapter and connecting collar shaft, I even used the crossmember from the blazer, just had to redrill a couple of holes, something to keep in mind is you have to use a205 trans case from a truck that was 350 automatic only, the 4 speed ones are different and the 400 trans were different. I believe that '71 - '73 used the 205 with 350 automatics and then again only one more year( '1980 and these had slip shafts in the rear output )which would still work in your truck. all I run in my trucks are 205 t cases, for some reason the front output splines are different for certain years and applications, you should have the flanged front output yoke on your 203, if you get a 205, your flanged yoke may not fit, you may have to have your driveshaft altered to accept a normal yoke setup , you won't know til you find your 205 though, definitely worth the work in swapping them out !

Look at 1 ton trucks most of them used a turbo 400 np205.The 350/np205 combo is kinda rare.If you want super rare the 91 crew cab used a 4l80e np205.

Shipping something that heavy might be kinda pricey.

I appreciate the offer but I'll hold out till I find something local. Right now this is only a hunting truck so no hurry. Thanks for the offer.
