Re: Need help asap

Cant imagine why! Wrong bearing clearances or galled rings will cause engine seizing. My money is on your bearings being locked up.

Man that sucks.. My buddy I mentioned with the ruffle potato chip crank, same exact thing happened. Shop was closed when he went to take it back. However, he did some digging and found the guy that ran the shop prior to it closing. He was able to get the guy to foot the bill at another shop. I would suggest trying the same thing. Do you remember the guys name? Ask around, the neighbors of his old shop location ect. Best of luck..

Re: Need help asap

Today I finally figured out what is wrong with the motor.took it back to the machine shop that worked on the heads and had them tear the motor down.they found that the rings were not gapped at all.thankfully the guy said I didn't run the motor long enough to mess anything up.he said all I need was to gap the rings, hone the block, and replace bearings.he said it looked like the bearings had dirt ran through them and that's why he was recommending to replace them.he's charging me 300 plus parts to regap the rings, hone the block, replace bearings including cam bearings, check all the clearances, and assemble the motor.does that sound like a good deal?it does to .me

Re: Need help asap

Sounds to me like he needs to eat the $300. If the rings would have been gapped the first time, you would be driving instead of wrenching. Gapped rings would have saved bearings, gaskets, oil pump, etc.

Re: Need help asap

You likely just found out why that shop is closed I would have to assume they did that kind of work on the regular.Thats not a bad price at all.I would be incredibly suspect of anything the machine shop did. There shouldnt be any dirt in the engine. If the bearings are torn up I would have them at least mic and polish the crank. You almost need to just have it completely gone through again to make sure the other shop didnt do any other bonehead stuff. At least you found a decent place. They know whats needed and it sounds like they are doing ya right.

Re: Need help asap

IMO it sounds like you NOW have a competant machinist / engine builder working on your motor. Getting out of this for only $300 is a GIFT!!!!!

You need to find out the engine builders name that made teh STUPID mistake in the first build and spread his name around and what it cost you to 'fix' his fine work!

I just did my taxes and reviewed my SS statement. Thanks to the current administration it looks like I will only have to work till noon on the day of my funeral.

Re: Need help asap

$300 is some cheap insurance. Great deal IMO being as this is not the original builder.

Re: Need help asap

Went to check on the engine yesterday after work and it was finally done, they were just putting the intake manifold on it.the final price came down to 450 plus tax.it was 300 just for labor, which included the initial inspection and tear down of the engine to the bare block.then he said he hot tanked the block and cleaned it,honed the cylinders, gap the rings, put new bearings, check the clearances and reassemble it.and then 150 for parts which was a new fel pro gasket set, bearings, and othe miscellenous stuff like bolts and other stuff.does dat sound like a good deal?
