Ho-52 help

Working on my rear disk conversion, took my hubs and brakes off and found this backing shield, is this a speedy sleeve? I have never seen a Speedy sleeve with this big of a lip. I don't think i can remove the backing plates to do the conversion unless i cut this thing off???

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Re: Ho-52 help

Looks like a dust shield. You should be able to get behind it and tap it forward till it pops off. Go slow and work it evenly. Dusts seals have a tendancy to get crooked and bent. When you reinstall it you may want to put a little loctite under it as they tend to be loose on reinstall.

Re: Ho-52 help

I agree that this is a dust shield as well.
My HO52 has it too, but I have seen other HO52's with out them.

Re: Ho-52 help

New question for everyone:

My rear hubs have been running Barrel roller bearings for the last 41 years, i popped the bearings out last night and then opened up my new bearings to check the size and found them to be tapered roller bearings, Any cause for concern?

Re: Ho-52 help

Mine are tapered.

No idea if barrel style is OK for this application you have, but if you do use them be sure to replace the races. Which is the rule when replacing roller bearings anyway.

Re: Ho-52 help

Still looking for answers on my last post please.

I didn't clarify that i have a full floating rear axle, its has always had barrel bearings and the auto parts store gave me tapered roller bearings, can i interchange?

Are all the HO-52-s the same? Vectorit's are tapered but i don't know if he has a full floating axle.

Thanks!

Re: Ho-52 help

I'm no expert, but I don't see why not if you change out the races.
