fRAME INTERCHANGE?
I have a 72 chevy and need a swb frame. Can someone tell me if the 67 up frames all interchange or is it specific years. I realize that disc brakes were only on the 71-72 models, but it's mainly the frame I'm interested in.Thanks

THEY INTERCHANGE FOR 67-72 IF YOU HAVE SAME OPTIONS. (2WD/4WD, COILS OR LEAF, BED LENGTHS, ETC...

I am pretty sure the section of the frame where the power steering box bolted up is different on the earlier years (67-68). Non power steering trucks are different than the power steering frames. I have never done this conversion, but I am sure someone on the board can help you out and tell you the differences.

i dont think they are diff from the power and non power i had no prob bolting up my 75 power steering and disc brakes on to my 68 2wd

from what I have seen, the 69 & newer steering boxes have a buldge on the side of the box. The 69 & newer frames have a deprssion on the frame to accept this buldge. My 67 frame has no buldge and the 77 power steering box I used would not bolt to my frame because of this. Spacers had to be made to set the steering box away from the frame.
Here's a pic of a steering box that has been spaced from the frame but it is not the way I did my truck.

frame interchange
My 67 frame has no depression for the power streeing box , my friends 68 does . What I read on this board sometime ago was that 68 haft way though the year and up had the depression. Also recall that that section of the frame could be heated up with a torch to make the depression needed to clear the power steering gear box

Been There Done That!!!! I'm building a 67 with the help of a 71 and a 68 I tried to steal the p/s from the 71 and it don't fit after looking at the 71 frame I see why there is an indention on the 71 to accept the p/s.

I added a 79 Power Steering Box on my 68 LWB, the only problem that I ran into was the front Bumper Brackets had to be cut out because the PS box was Longer then the Manual box was! Other than that, it was a direct bolt on !!

most late 68 have the commmon 68-up large p/s gearbox depression and most 67 and early 68 dont, but have seen one 67 so far that has the depression, is a 67 panel delivery
i have owned a handful of 68;s and all have been large p/s box adaptable trucks- are depressed for them, bracket for bumper has to be trimmed to allow clearance for the larger new style p/s box good luck |
