Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Haven't got much done over the summer, it's just too hot and I've been doing a little bit of work on the t-type. About to start up on the truck again. I did snag another parts truck, but it's pretty complete and has a good title so I might shorten the frame and build it too. It's a 68 c10 127in wb with a 67 bed.

Got the front clip pulled in preparation for pulling the motor/trans before winter.

It definitely looks like you're making some great progress on your truck. I know I'm late to the build but I'm subscribing and look forward to some more of your progress.

Thanks! I've done a few things lately that I needed to update.

Will post pics later, but I bought a really solid set of fenders off a 72 Cheyenne super. No rust in the fender cup, OEM paint, and just a few dings.

Pulled the driveshaft, unbolted the 3-speed from the crossmember, and unbolted the engine from the engine stands.

My hope is to pull the motor out tomorrow as long as the forecast holds out and its not too windy. I will probably just throw it in the 68 parts truck I got for now.

Then I need to powerwash the front suspension and frame. So much crud built up on there I can't see many of the bolts!

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Got engine and trans out. First time I've pulled an engine so I feel pretty accomplished. Set it in place in the 68 parts truck for the time being. Had lots of help from Coconut the shop cat too.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Here's my fenders I found on Craigslist. Seller happened to be a member on here so I lucked out. Oem paint/patina off a Cheyenne super. Has trim holes so o won't have to drill those out. I'm going to fill the upper holes. Not sure if I'm going to run the original c/10 emblems or these. Best part is the fender cup is nice and not rotted out! Just a little bit of surface rust, much better than it shows in the pic.

Well, I finally learned first-hand why everyone hates rivits. Quite a bit of work but the manual trans crossmember is out!

Had a little bit of time yesterday with some nice weather and got both side holes cut out for a vintage air kit. Still need to do the center vent.

No kidding! Last round of rivets I knocked out with my friends heavy duty air hammer with a chisel blade to sheer the head. It made quick work of it.
That is assuming you can get to the heads of the rivet.

Nice work cutting the vents in. AC is mandatory

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

I took the truck into the frame shop a few months ago to check it out since the front frame horns just looked not right. Took it back last week to get it fixed so I can move forward with the build. Pass side was lower than it should and drivers side was pushed in towards the center of the truck. They straightened it out and mounted the core support and fenders I'd gathered up and everything fits great.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

I got the front sheet metal off again. Had a local guy who does dustless blasting come look at it and give me an estimate. I spent a few hours the other day removing the remaining stuff connected to the firewall. Steering column, brake/clutch pedal assembly, ebrake assembly, and master cylinder removed. Next step will be to cut out the small hump and remove the front and back glass. I'm going to build a rolling cab cart and I will be ready to remove the cab and have the cab blasted. I'm also drilling out all the spot welds on the inner cowl structure for rust repair and blasting inside there too.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

I was near KC for a wedding so I stopped by Classic Parts and LMC to grab a few large pieces to save some money on shipping. My wife wasn't too comfortable on the way home though, oops. I got both bumpers, inner and outer grille, rear wheel tubs, and a few other things. I've been hesitant to buy a repro 69-70 grille because every one I've seen looks like crap. I went ahead and took a $500 gamble on one and hoped I could make it work. After some careful gentle rubbing with thinner on a Krew 600 towel and some aluminum polish, it looks great!

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

I got the cab braced up finally. Built a cab cart. Removed doors, got the cab off the frame, and got the cab mounted on the cart.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Cab is sitting like this now. I'm ready to have it dustless blasted at this point and then hit it with a few coats of SPI epoxy. Then I can get to cutting and welding on it.

Got the rockers off. Both front and rear pillars on both sides were worse than I thought, so I've got those en route now.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Inner cowl finally off. I had started drilling out the spot welds months ago, but really got after it the past 2 days. I'd rather have left it, but to do it right it needed to come off. 109 spot welds on the outer lip, plus 22 more I think on the inner parts. Lots of fun.

Got the holes drilled for the rear cab divider trim. Also mocked up my Mar-k trim and it looks like I got it straight.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Had a mobile blasting company come out and media blast my cab in my driveway. He used a combo of dry and wet blasting. The result was surprising to me, no more rust now!

After spending the money to have the cab blasted, I needed to get it in epoxy right away. So I sprayed 2 coats of SPI epoxy on it. Lots of progress in one day.

Re: Project "3Face 69 SWB"

Went ahead and bought an AAW classic update harness during black Friday sales. Also got a repro inner cowl that seems to fit ok, but I need to remove the driver side mounting bracket since it is on the new cowl as well.
