Nice job on the barn. It's always nicer to work on them out of the weather.

Couldn't agree with you more. And since we found a guy on craigslist that was tearing down old chicken houses, we were able to slap it together for under $500!

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Although I've been able to drive this truck for over a year now, it does feel good to finally be able to use it for what it was created for! Got the trailer brakes hooked up this week! so excited to be able to go camping with the Family!

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Don't know if it will let me but I picked up another donor truck and got some new wheels for the kidhlr. Here are some pics. Next step is to get her in some gloss paint and wax! Trying to decide on a color, either white or like a silver metallic blue. Thoughts? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

I am partial for it to stay white. Maybe add some trim ( or even some flames )

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Really transparent powder blue ghost flames would look sweet! The problem would be getting the flames to stretch far enough back that it would look proportional.

FYI if you have a "three legged" truck and need to trailer it home.....setting the bumper on you receiver hitch and backing it onto the trailer might get you by for a day, but plan on replacing the hitch and you newly bent frame. Time to get a tow truck :-)

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Ouch! Have you got it fixed by now? Any new updates? What did you do for brake cables? What did you do for stretching the wiring to the trailer lights, taillights, third brake light, etc.? Did you have to make another mount where the truck cab and suburban body were joined? Sorry, but my head is filling with questions at an alarming rate.

This is a sweet build and I love the craftsmanship. I wanted to the same thing to an 89 f350 with a cummins. Dually of course. Had the chance but not the money tree seed I needed to start. BTW, how much do you have tied up in the conversion?

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

as far as updates......last night I sold the camper that was the reason for my build. but, I got a dirt bike two hours later. still need a pickup and 9 seats! LOL.

Trailer hitch still needs rebuilt...I think I will tuck it up under a new roll pan...

Truck is slated to be painted next week. I think I have decided on Maui Blue from 1988 firebird/Camaro

The cables are tied together with a crimp. it's about a four foot extension from the suburban.

the wiring from the truck matched up to the suburban great, so color to color for the brake lights etc. The fuel pump connection is another story. Because the suburban has the fuel tank mounted in the rear and the truck has it mounted in front of the rear wheels, I was able to just plug in the original wireing harness from the suburban with no splices. The sending unit still needs to be changed, because when the gauge reads 1/2, it's almost empty.

No, the mount was already there under the cab of the pickup. when I joined the two frames it was already there.

No worries, I had a lot of questions too, but I could not find enough information out there. There is no substitute for planning ahead, but eventually you just need to go get'r'done I had the Idea in my head since 06 I think. I bought a suburban for 1800.00 drove it around for about a year or two. found a local salvage yard that would sell me a truck with no motor for 200.00 and got some steel and a welder. If you don't count the tools that I bought and the tires that I put on it that the suburban needed anyway I figure I have about 3000 in to the build. Plus Probably about six weeks labor and some tinkering since the build.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Just ordered a duel fuel kit for the Kid Hauler. Gonna be running LPG by the end of the week hopefully. I plan on starting a new thread just for the propane conversion.

Yes I live near Joplin, as for updates, I've been busy with mileage experiments. Converted the KIDHLR to propane late last year. Its already paid for itself.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Hey I read the thread and love it! I have wanted a crew cab chevy with that body style but I cant easily fine one. so I was thinking about making a normal one with just a suburban and a truck. but after seeing this build I fell in love with it. me and my friends have been talking about building one. we already have a truck and I can get a suburban pretty cheap up here in Indiana. but I have about a million other questions about this. like how is it going after a couples years to start off?
