16.5 Steel Rims?

Have a pair of factory 4 nub 16.5 eight lug wheels. Is there any interest in something like this, worth keep for the right person? Being as I have a 4x4 6 lug I myself don't have a need for them and am thinking next time I make a scrap iron run these are going along for a one way trip. Understand about the 16.5 tires being almost impossible to obtain.

Re: 16.5 Steel Rims?

I know I have on occasion read here on the board that someone was or is looking for 16.5s but usually the after market shiny ones, chrome or aluminum. These are plain jane 16.5s, 4 nub for disc brakes and hubcaps, 6 1/2'' width. Would make someone a GOOD deal on the pair if they wanted them and were close by for pickup but shipping these things would be $$.

Guess will leave them in the parts shed awhile longer, not really in the way right now. Will be a bit before I make my next scrap iron run so have time to ponder on these. Thanks for your reply.

Good choice, in my opinion. I just hate to scrap anything, especially obsolete stuff, especially in decent condition. There's always a chance that someone, somewhere, can put 'em to good use.

Thinking the same. I've been storing a set of 1968 factory C-30 SRW 17.5" wheels for the right person.

Tires are obsolete so I would sell or scrap them. Unless they are the 8”-9” wide version you won’t be able to even give them away.

Re: 16.5 Steel Rims?

I scrapped a truck load of them a few years ago.
Then I swapped the 16.5's on my motorhome to 16's(I had a blow -out on the road and was barely able to find a used one and it wasn't cheap)! Now I have those 16.5's laying around.
Nobody around here wants them because the tires are hard to find, expensive and not enough sizes available.
Mike.

Re: 16.5 Steel Rims?

I finally took the 16.5's off my truck for the above mentioned reasons. I also had a blowout. They aren't cheap to replace or easy to find. So I went with 16's. I still have the 16.5 slots on the side of my house, which my wife is thrilled about.
I'll just keep them. Maybe if there is enough interest someone will put the tires out again. They were popular. The last tires I got were too skinny in my opinion. But that's all that was available. The tire guy told me that I got the last one's he had.

Re: 16.5 Steel Rims?

I don't consider the tires hard to find because I never bought from the corner tire store off their shelves anyway, and the fact is these tires are still made. Matter of fact, they are made by Firestone in 9.50 and smaller. 9.50s are ideal for fitting either the stock 6.75" wide like you have or the 8.25 wide camper style wheels.

I just easily found these sources in a few minutes:
