GTO in Gilmore Museum

Some of you might be familiar with my '65 GTO, which I inherited from my dad upon his passing.

I received a note that stated the Gilmore Museum (the "Red Barns") in Hickory Corners Michigan was looking for a GTO for their musclecar display til next April.

I thought "hey - free secure, heated storage through next winter". (lol)

So I dropped the car off yesterday afternoon. My wife and I looked around while they got the car situated in the display - front and center.

Keith, what an honor! Just read the "one owner collector car". The history of that car is awesome. Wow.

Looks really nice! I'd be sweating bullets about people molesting it, though. What assurance have you been given that it won't be monkeyed with?

I had a '65 GTO, 389 4-speed with 4.33 rear gears. It didn't look anywhere near that nice, though. it was a clapped-out bomb that the previous owner couldn't keep straight when accelerating. But I rebuilt the engine and it was striped-a$$ fast.

Very nice! I've been meaning to stop in and check out the muscle car exhibit. I will be sure to check it out in person and take some pics! Lucky for me I'm not very far from it. Also planning on going to some of the Wednesday evening cruise in's this summer.

They keep an eye on things.

In this case it is right outside the gift shop and ticket office - it is the first thing you see before you even get through the door.

Re: GTO in Gilmore Museum

You didn't need to doubt they'd want that car. One owner, bought for performance, now in hands of son who carries on the racing, black on black, Michigan car... Could be the most important muscle car of all. To me it is for sure. Yeah yeah, 64.5/65 Mustang... whatever. That's a pony car and besides, hardly enough puff to gain this dragon's (I mean hardtop family sedan) attention.

Wow, that is one nice GTO Keith.
I'm going to have to revisit the link you have on it.

Very nice and a great honor to have the car in a museum.

All good

Re: GTO in Gilmore Museum

I love the 65 & 65 GTOs, but the GT37s were a model I always thought were cool for being what they were. Tricky business. That '71 is nice. Love the 442, too. Your '65 is the coolest, though

I live about 20 miles from Gilmores and the place is awesome. Low admission and you can spend the whole day there. They have exhibits from every era.

Here's a few. The truck was in a summer show but I had to post it.

Re: GTO in Gilmore Museum

Bringing this back to the top -

The Gilmore has re-arranged a bit and moved the muscle car display into a different room.

One of my buddies was kind enough to send a couple photos.

I was there in the middle of October for an outdoor Blues fest and to check on things but they hadn't made the switch yet.

Nice, my uncle is a known GTO expert. His name is Mark Neary and he goes by the nick named the Goat Herder. He has a warehouse full of GTO's and GTO parts. I heard he might be retiring.
