Re: Project "Jezebel"

Personally, I like the look of the 67-68 over the 69-72 (even though they all look great). Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be over the top

Sgaylord, will you come to Atlanta and help me with my cab

I bought a 71 that I am putting a 67/68 front end on. To me the slant of the hood just makes the truck look soooo much better.
Thanks Brian, after looking at your build it appears we have a bit in common. I too am an IT geek. I am on the UNIX support side myself. It's funny to see how many IT people migrate to old vehicles.

I am really digging your build, you may feel you don't know what you are doing but the results are saying something entirely different.

I would not mind at all helping you out if you were closer. I don't think that fridge of yours holds enough beer for that long of a trip.

Like you it's the 67/68 hood that I like, and that's the reason for this whole quandary.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Thats awesome... I was a Citrix admin for 8 years. Just got out of that here recently and bought a restaurant franchise. Thanks for the compliments, Its pretty awesome to hear that from other people you look up to on these forums. I cant find anyone around here that could give me lessons on how to do rust repair so I am VERY intimidated by the cab. Im sure once I get into it I will feel better about it. Im almost tempted to find a local tech school and see if I can take some classes.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

You probably have heard this before but look at rust repair like peeling an onion. Take it one layer at a time till you get the the part you want to keep. Then work your way back out from there. Please feel free to reach out to me if you get stuck. I would be glad to help where I can. PM me and I will send you my phone #.

You have to let me know what your restaurant's name is and if I'm in your area I will have to drop in!

Re: Project "Jezebel"

My restaurant is called Jack's New Yorker Deli I built the one in johns creek, ga. www.jacksnyd.com

Back to your build....did you build the cart you are using to roll around your cab? If so, do you have the specs on it? I'd like to built something like that.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Ok guys I guess it's time for an update. Some progress is better than no progress right?

I have stripped all of the paint from the outside of the cab, etch primed and shot it with 2k. More bodywork still to do and right now I have the cab back on the frame and doing some tweaks on the door fitment. Here are the pics of all that.

That's 9 layers of paint!

Nice clean metal underneath. You can see the 3m seam sealer in the drip rail in this pic.

That's about it for now. I will have to take some pics of the cab on the frame and also reveal the tires and wheels... Stay tuned my gear head brethren!

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Holy crap SGAYLORD!! I thought I was crazy!! That's just totally sick, but your doing really great. How do I say this politely,,,, Some of you guys start with some really rusty $h1t. I can't believe your saving her. Around here we call that a poor excuse for a parts truck. I guess we're blessed to live in a low humidity area. Nice job on the truck and the camaro (totally sweet). Keep up the good work.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

I really needed to get some updated progress pics out so you guys can see where I am so here goes.

Noticed the door still stuck out more than I wanted at the rocker so I did the typical rocker slice, dice, and fill to bring it out a bit.

Below you will see the tools I used to grind down the welds and smooth it out.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

The next project was the captive nuts in the "A" pillar were getting stripped from all the removal and installation of the door during fitting. I wish I would have done this when I had the "A" pillar open but oh well.

Had to cut an access into the "A" pillar pocket to access the cage that held in the captive nuts that the door hinges bolts to.

You cant see it too well here but the threads were pretty worn so the only option was to weld it shut and tap it back out.

Welded, drilled, and tapped for the 3/8-24 bolts.

That pretty much gets you up to date to where I am at the moment. Here are some current pics with the cab on the frame. As well as pics of the wheels and tires that I just realized I did not post before. Feedback welcome!

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Man, super attention to details! couple of questions,
Where did you get your rockers?
Where did you get the 3m seam sealer? do you have a part number?
What kind of primer is that? Epoxy?
Are you just using a D/A sander to get your paint to bare metal?
sorry for the questions, I'm getting ready to do my second cab for my project.
thanks

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Hey Mike,

No problem about the questions.

Where did you get your rockers?
They were made by Tri-plus. I think I picked them up from a vendor at the Daytona Turkey Rod Run.

Where did you get the 3m seam sealer? do you have a part number?
I got it at Orileys. Don't have the part # but if you cant find it send me a PM and I will ask my buddy who manages my local store for the PN.

What kind of primer is that? Epoxy?
Sherwin Williams Etch on bare metal and their 2k on top of that.

Are you just using a D/A sander to get your paint to bare metal?
Exactly, DA set to lock with 80 grit

Steve

Thanks for all the help Steve. I think the last rockers I got from LMC were triplus? They are a little on the short side just like yours.

I hope you guys thump the bayou bengals
