Re: 55.2 Chevy 3100

Hey Aaron, just saw your posts for the first time, checked it all out, what a great job you have done with the frame / step by step and getting it all to a point that you want and like. The body is looking great too, you have some great skills!

I had to redo both my doors and it wasnt a project I was looking forward to at all, I dont have 'master skills' at metal working like some of these guys but I understand the basics of getting from A to B. I did what you explained below, picked a reference point on the door (window bottom edge) made some reference lines on the door, measurements of where the original outer skin bottom was. Also did the same on the interior side using the window bottom edge as my ref point and measurements to the bottom edge corners of the door bottom. I cut out the interior side first and left the outer inplace until I tacked in the interior side. Then removed the outer skin and lapped it and used clecos to hold it together, screws work too! Worked out pretty good, slapped some filler on all the joints and made it smooth enough for some temp paint.

Good luck on the build! looks good!

It's been a while since I cut the thing up. So I'm trying to remember what I did. I Think I eventually cut the whole bottom off. When I do the other door, I think I'm going to leave the outter skin on and use it as a reference for the new inner, then when I have the new inner in place I will then cut the old outter skin off and replace with new. When I cut the whole bottom off the other door I did it was harder to make sure it was all right even though I had taken a bunch of measurements.
I don't know if that helps at all. I'll check for more pics. I think the pics that I've posted maybe it.

Hey thanks!! Thanks for the info! I too was not looking forward to tackling the doors. I just dive in and go bit by bit. I'll be glad when they are done though..lol
I've checked out your build as well, really great work you've done. I like it!!

Re: 55.2 Chevy 3100

I have a problem with staying on task..lol
Haven't made much progress since the last post. I got side tracked by another little project that got a little out of hand.
I did get the cab corner and step on the passenger side all welded and done up.
Then I moved to to the driver side and the door is not fitting well at all. So I've been messing with that a little.

Re: 55.2 Chevy 3100

Then here is the project that side tracked me. My grandpa built this for me when I was a little kid. It has sat for years...like 25-30 years. So I'm getting it going for my daughters.

Re: 55.2 Chevy 3100

I haven't posted on here in a long time. I do visit from time to time and look around at some of the builds.

I sold my 1955 project yesterday. It was bitter sweet. One because I just didn't work on it or give it the attention it needed. I have other priorities over the truck and so now I can move on with those. I would have liked to see it through and see my vision come to life. It just wasn't practical at this time. I'll still be on here and looking around and possibly starting a thread for my other pickup.
Perhaps later in life I'll find another one.

The 55-59 are still my favorite years..Specifically 55-57..lol.

I did some work on it right before I sold it so I will post some pics of that.

Re: 55.2 Chevy 3100

More Pics, The last one is the pickup loaded up and leaving with the new owner.
I told him about this forum so maybe it will be on here again some day. I'm curious to see it when it's done. I did have new fenders for the front that I wish I could have seen on it before it left.
