Wow, that's a good one, hope you're successful talking him out of it. Great combo and rare swb highlander to boot.

A Black SWB and it seems to all there, DG4 Mirrors especially.. That truck would be a worthy restoration project.. It took me two years to buy a truck one time. It was parked in an apartment parking lot and being used so didn't know who owned it so kept leaving notes under the wiper every 6 months or so. One day I came from work and the wife said the man called that owns the truck you have been leaving notes under the wiper and he's ready to sell. Keep at it and I'm sure you will get it.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here's an update on the YG8 Highlander I bought a while back (post #908). I was filling my Sportster up with gas when I noticed a two tone early 70s Chevy truck sitting in the yard of the house next door. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the blue plaid seat and realized what it was. 25K miles, last licensed in 1995, sinking into the yard. The lady who owned it said it had belonged to her husband who died in 1979. After that her father drove it periodically until he died and after that it sat. After a few conversations with her, I was able to purchase it in January of 2017. After a good scrubbing, I went through all of the mechanicals and got it going. Currently use it as a driver.

Oh by the way, when I was talking to the lady who owned truck she casually said to me, "I've also got a 68 Impala, a 67 Oldsmobile, a 68 Oldsmobile Delta 98 two door, and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air (black with red interior) that I bought new when I was nineteen". I about fell over.

A couple of "as found" pics and how it looks now along with SPID.

Awesome truck. Cool story behind it dave. I’d be looking at helping her get rid of the other four cars as well. She has a good stable there. Hope they are not all sitting outdoors as well.

Thanks. Her other vehicles are under roof. The 57 was in a small building with the roof falling in on it (see pic), but her neighbors have since helped her move it to a more sound garage.

Here is a YG6 Package Highlander with no power steering or power brakes and 3 on the tree and I guess a 307 engine..

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Looks like it was original with white top only.
Now it’s deluxe 2 tone without the lower trim.

Just a curiosity, did highlanders ever come with painted bumpers ?

Re chrome front bumper. If a Highlander has one of the packages YG6, YG7 or YG8 then the chrome front bumper was included in the Package. If you have a non package Highlander like my personal truck then the chrome front bumper was an option. Highlander was just a trim package until the Package Trucks were built. On the truck I just posted it would have came with the chrome front bumper but it was obviously bootlegged at some point. Pic is my truck when i bought it.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here is a Craigslist Highlander and even though no spid is showing with having the DG4 mirrors, A/C and tilt I'm sure it a YG8 Package truck.

Here’s a GMC with just the plaid option, not a highlander. It’s on eBay.

I just purchased a 1972 Suburban Highlander. Quite a few enthusiasts on here...what can you tell me about it? Seems pretty rare

I haven’t seen too many subs on here with the highlander package. Very cool

Very cool. What color is the plaid seat material? I can't tell from the picture but looks gray or avocado. Curious what color would come with the bronze paint.

Seems like a pretty typical C10, YG7 non-A/C, Promo Package Highlander Suburban.
The Special Two-Tone of Med Bronze primary with White roof and rockers is a striking combination. Combined with the Avocado Plaid and white vinyl trim more so. Plus since that was not a "recommended trim combination", someone jumped through the minor hoops to special order it that way.

Probably the best place to start is the Plaid Suburban specific page linked in my signature. Also that is the best place to post questions too.

Welcome to the board! :-)

On a Med Bronze Highlander Suburban, codes 522, 551 and 582, code 639 Gray Plaid was "the" recommended color trim combination. Others required a minor special order proceedure.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Welcome to the boards. There are great people on here that are very knowledgeable about any aspect of 67-72 truck, burbs and Blazers/Jimys. As you can see there are 1260 posts just in this tread that SS Tim started so anything you want to find out about Highlanders is probably covered on this or the Plaid Suburban Post.

No A/C, but for a vehicle in Montana, not really a problem (I'm in California). Other than that, this is a really nicely appointed vehicle!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here is one on Ebay now. Originally a nice Big Block YG8 Package Highlander that of course the A/C compressor and brackets are now gone, and no exterior mirrors and antenna. the mouldings have been removed and holes filled and a flipper has it. There are 20 bids on it now with multiple bidders. This would have been a sweetie with the BB and tool box and great original color combo.

That's some SPID. I just know there is a junkyard, somewhere, with nothing by a/c compressors, tubing, and brackets in it. And nothing else.

That last one definitely seen better days. Price is right where I see people selling them for these days though.
