complete lowering suspension

Was wondering what some of you have done when lowering your truck? As far as buying kits or did you piece it together? I want to do the 5-7 drop, is there a kit that has everything? And new tie rod ends and disc brakes would be nice to do at the same time. When I search some kits have some of the stuff needed, others have more than what I need or the some of the same as others.

Re: complete lowering suspension

It depends on budget. Low buck searching for the cheapest components and piecing it together versus sending a check to someplace like Hotchkis for everything. Its about value and what you want out of the truck. So that being said what kind of budget do you have and how are you planning on using the truck?

Re: complete lowering suspension

Rule of thumb for springs in front are no more than 3" drop. Rear up to 5" before C-notch needed.

http://www.classicperform.com/Chevy-Truck.htm#28

In front you could do 2.5" drop spindles too in front with a 2" spring but then you gotta run larger front wheel or possibly notch your lower control arms if sticking with 15".

For rear you could do 5" drop springs with a 2" block but will definitely need a C-notch. Going that low you will need the relocated panhard bar.

I did 3" front and rear with a 1" block in rear with adjustable pan hard bar and rear shock relocation kit from CPP. nice complete kit with shocks.

Re: complete lowering suspension

As mentioned, going that low you need to consider 2.5" spindles then a 2" dropped spring up front. 5" coils, 2" drop blocks, shock relocation and adjustable panard bar in the rear. I have the same setup on my truck if you want to see how I put it together, it's a mixture of stuff some for the budget, some not so much. I converted mine to the 73-87 front kmember but if you're not planning on pulling the motor I wouldn't suggest that route. It just makes the truck drive better, centers the front wheels up in the fender well a little better, bigger brakes, different steering geometry, etc.

Re: complete lowering suspension

Budget, I would like to keep it under $2000. I did a C notch already and am going with a 20" wheel. I'm looking for something that has springs, shocks, drop spindles, adjustable panhard bar and all the hardware for relocating shocks or anything else that's affected by dropping it this far. What about pinion angle or the pitman arm? Does anyone make anything for that? Yes I'm going to put discs on the front. I noticed a lot of people are already going this route so I figure before I start buying a piece here and a piece there, maybe someone already has some info on it. As far as moving the cross member, I'm gonna leave that alone. I have a BBC and a small block, but it has a good running 350 in it. Definitely no power house, maybe 200hp, but I have a line on a 6.0 so will eventually go with an LS, just so I can cruise farther than the local cruise night without looking for a gas station.

Only issue I see is that you have a 69 with drum brakes and would need to convert to disc along with the lowered spindles...

Plan on going to disc brake and drop spindles. The early classics says wheel actually moves in so no problem with rubbing. I am trying to get an answer out of cop about their spindles. Your center link is a great looking kit with spindles.

Re: complete lowering suspension

Got the early classics 4-6 drop. I thought I would order the brakes this week, but didn't think weather or not they had a disc brake kit that doesn't include spindles. Has anyone found a disc brake conversion for drop spindles, as the kit I ordered comes with the spindles
