Post Rear brake lines on a '72 w/coils

Where does the rear brake line "tee" mount on a '72 short bed w/coil rear suspension? This is the tee that connects the axle lines to the rubber hose. And from that "tee" where does the rubber line go? I bought a stainless brake line kit for a '72 and putting them it on a '70? frame. I've got the front lines figured out, but I can't figure out how the rear line fit. The only line I have left is an "L" shaped one, but it isn't obvious to me how and where it mounts. Anyone have pictures of the rear brake lines installed? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

its simple, all it is is a 1/4" stele line runnign straight from the prop valve back to the rubber flex hose at the axle hose bracket and then the hose screws into a distributing block and the two 3/16" lines- one for each rear wheel screw into each side of the block, simple...

good luck

I know the basic layout, but the lines I have don't seem right. I need to know exaclty where the line are supposed to be located. I'm about to go crazy trying to get these lines installed! I thought it'd be a piece of cake. Does the rear rubber line mount to the hole in the frame above the passenger side coil spring on all years or are '72's different?

Here is a picture of the line I can't quite figure out:

The hook end of the line in your pictures mounts to a square cutout in the crossmember right behind the rear axle. The start of the rubber hose connects to that same cutout. The cutout is almost dead centre on the crossmember. The rubber hose connects to the tee. The tee is connected via a mount that is held by the bolt at the 1 o'clock position on the differential pan. I hope this is clear. I wish I had a camera to take picture for you.

Thank You Alex!! I figured it went back there somewhere, but wasn't sure how. My frame doesn't have the cutout however. Was this unique to 71-72 trucks? Does anyone have (or can anyone take) a picture of this cutout? I can just drill a hole for it but I'd like to see it anyway. I'm having these problems because I bought a kit for a '72 because I have '72 disk brakes. However, my frame/front cross member are a '70 (I think). I should have just bought the kit for the'67-70, but I didn't realize they were that much different.

67-69 axles have a tab wleded ot the passenger side axle tube with a ohle in it for the end of the hose to clip on to, 71-'80 or til '87 have the L bracket that bolts to the diff cover bolt and no tab welded to axle tube

i owulda just bought a piece of straight line form the auto parts sttore and bent it however you needed it and save trouble of trying to make a pre bent one fit,

good luck

Well, I bought the kit about 2-1/2 years ago and am just now getting around to put them on. Didn't think it'd be this difficult!

alex is right about the square hole in the cross member above the diff. This holds the rubber hose. My 72 swb w/coils had this set up. The rubber hose that connects to the hard lines coming from the master has a swaged brass 'T' fitting called a "weatherhead'(I believe) that attaches to the diff. bolt (w/special bracket) at about 1 o. Found this brass fitting in NAPA catalog, cost about $60.00! This T took the 2 lines running to the wheel cylinders. Got those lines from In-Line Tubing. Stainless

$60.00???? Yikes! I bought the stainless flex lines from Inline and that hose came with the "T" connection. Thanks for the info though.

yes Fast I did. Actually ONLY $54.00. This is how it transpired. The rubber had to be replaced and no one at NAPA knew what I was talking about. Saw the same set up in the "THIS OLD TRUCK" article from Early Classic so called them (great guys). They gave me phone no. of their local NAPA and they gave me part number (also same price) which I used to 'educate' my NAPA people.
