There’s Rust in that there bed...

My husband has wanted a C10 for quite awhile. We spent the last year looking for one. Long story short we found one online (yes, we had it appraised and inspected), she just arrived today. She’s far from prefect but we were expecting that (she’ll be a daily driver). Here’s where I need you guys, we found undisclosed rust in the bed under peeling paint. What is your suggested course? I’m thinking bide our time, fix the other stuff, then pull the bed, media blast the whole thing and go from there. That way we can see the full extent and fix it at once, no patch jobs. Thanks!

Side note she’s a SoCal truck now, that’s why I’m considering putting it off a little while.

They make the entire bed pan if necessary.

Surface rust or rot? The first isn't hard to repair temp could be as little as a scrub with a wire brush and a coat of rust encapsulator. Rot needs to be cut out to good steel and patched. Or complete floorpan replacement.

You can buy pieces of the bed floor as well, personally I would just cut out what rot you have and patch that in. Pretty quick and easy, then down the road media blast or whatever you want to do. If it is just surface rust, wire brush with a grinder or drill and spray rust coat on it and whatever top coat matches and call it a day. They tend to rot at the back along with the rear cross sill.

Do the replacement bed pans come with the crossmember underneath, or are those separate parts (not the frame crossmember, but the crossmember attached to the pan of the bed that then bolts to the frame)? I have a rusty one.
