Similar in Maryland. You can go to jail for shooting someone that has broken into your house unless you can prove it was ABSOLUTE life or death. A while back (probably 10 years ago now) there was someone arrested for using a sword to defend his house against a burglar.

Edit:
John Pontolillo. He killed the intruder. Looks like the decided he was justified 4 months later. Intruder was in and out of jail like 20+ times.

I figure if I have to shoot someone I ain't telling the authorities. I'll turn the dude into kibble and feed him to the dogs. Or make a lime pit in the back yard and make him into fertilizer.

I would take him to the nearest pig farm or the woods for the circle of life recycle.....

just remember to police the brass and dig out the slugs.
