Sure hope its accurate, thats how I assembled the engine, TDC with the balancer lined up on zero.

Before you put the heads on did you set #1 at tdc with a piston stop and then install or mock-up your balancer and timing tab?

Just followed the How-To Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy Book, step by step during assembly. I can't remember exactly off hand at the moment the sequence of events, I also had assembled it over a year ago now.

So your timing tab/balancer May or may not be accurate.
Easiest thing to do is power time it.

So I got some help from a local engine/speed shop. Timing was 34 total to begin with. Bumped the total timing to 40 and adjusted the idle mixture screws a bit. Also, I had the throttle cable stud in the top hole like the GM shop manual said (not sure why pickups used the top hole and Suburbans and others used the bottom hole according to the manual), moved it to the lower hole and that also helped.
