Headlight options for 1989-1991

I'm looking for better headlights, the lights on my 1991 are awful. Anyone have any first hand experience with option that is worth while.
I've been told that there Were aftermarket housings available at one point that could be used with hids, but I have never seen them.
Any input would be appreciated.
I do have the four smaller headlight setup.

Thanks
Keith

Re: Headlight options for 1989-1991

LMCTruck sells lenses that accept 9005 and 9006 capsules. I have them in 88-89 GMT-400 adjusters in my '96 daily driver. I think I've got some pics in my build thread. I aimed them a little better this week and I have been very pleased with them. I will upload pics from aiming them in a few days, will have them posted in my thread.

Re: Headlight options for 1989-1991

I bought a set of European spec headlights made by Hella for my 1990 Suburban and they made a huge difference.

Another upgrade for the headlights is solenoids and heavier gauge wire.

What are these Hellas that you speak of? (I know of the company, didn't know they had anything for this application.) Do you have a part number?

Oh yes! I built a new headlight harness with 12 Ga. wire and relays as well.

Here's a picture of the headlight. Huge improvement even with a legal 55w bulb.

It has the following numbers
E1
34557 R20

1305621125

Thank you! Did you purchase them? Remember where?

Re: Headlight options for 1989-1991

Super cool but looking at pix, those aren't Hellas but the factory Bosch Guide H4s. Same ones I run...the GM/Bosch export E-code headlights in lo/hi. '88-'91 only!
Got a bunch yrs ago and only have the hi-beams left. Makes a huge difference for sure just with 55/60 stock H4 bulbs. 85/100 H4s will burn paint.
It'll blind ya if all four are on hi!

You could do relays with sealed beams and get full 12 volts to the lamps. That alone would be huge improvement.
