3in front drop and 2in rear
If I drop the front end of my 69 3in with springs, do I need new shocks?
And if I drop the back 2in with springs, do I need new shocks? I notice everybody drops the back more then the front. But if I go 3in in the front and 2in in the back, it will make the space between the fender and top of the tire the same. |

Front yes on shocks and rear maybe. For most of us it is the overall attitude of the truck and not the distance from the tire to the wheel well. The overall stance is what makes or breaks it for me.

3 inches with just springs is going to really limit the amount of travel you have. You will be bottoming out a lot I suspect. I would recommend looking at springs and spindles.

Something seems off on your truck... They are always higher in the back than front if things are stock. I have a 71 GMC somebody heated and collapsed the rear coils on and it's STILL higher in the back...
Some trucks are OK with 3" springs, but some can't be aligned. If you really want to lower your truck, I would get a complete kit rather than trying to figure out what a PO cooked up. (F'd up?). On mine I went with ECE disc conversion and 5 lug axles so that I could actually have some wheels to choose from. The drop disc spindles are the best way to get the truck down IMO. 2 1/2" then you can play with springs to get what you want. 4 1/2" on my truck.

Funny to see this thread. The other night im out working on my truck so I grabbed a tape measure. The previous owner put drop spindles on the front but stock out back. My truck also measures just 2” needed in the rear to make matching clearance. Not sure if the drop spindles are 2 or 2.5”.

But i would get new springs, whats 80-100 when your already going through all of the trouble of swapping springs
