1966 C10 LB with '69 Small Block?

Hello,
Recently acquired a 66 long bed project truck. Seller had told me it had a 283.... I can do an oil change and not much else, so had no clue.
Now doing some research and getting some mixed results.
What might I have here?

ViIN stamp on front passenger side of engine =19Zxxxx (1969?... were 283's still being made?)
Other stamp to right of VIN=T0916HR (HR is for 350?)
Oil tube attached to manifold= not on 350s?
'Camel' humps at front of engine casting=350?
Pic should follow.

Thank you

Looks like a 69 350 with a 283 2 barrel intake on it.

You might be the only person in history to have been told it was a 283 and got a 350 instead of the other way around.

Okay, makes sense now... good for me then
I'll be looking for the correct parts, but for now, can I safely test engine with that manifold?
Thank you all!👍

You can verify from the number off the block as well if you have not done so yet.

Was the motor run before you got it?

According to seller engine ran. Been parked for about 10 yrs. He had left it at top dead center... and distributer did drop right in.
I just came back from having alternator tested, but it failed. So that's next.

Just because the distributor dropped right in doesn’t mean it’s timed right.
#1 is on tdc twice in the cycle. You need to be on tdc compression to start.

You should treat the motor like it’s fresh. Set it up to fire right away at 1500 rpm. You need lots of rpm to properly lube the cam and lifters. They get their lubrication from oil splash.
Keep us posted as you go along.

Cool, you are on your way.

Dido - just initial timing until you can pop it off and set the timing while it is running.

Re: 1966 C10 LB with '69 Small Block?

I think those have to be 69 heads because they are drilled at both ends for accessory bolt holes, and I think in 69 the camel hump heads only came on 350's with 300hp or more. I think you have the foundation for a great engine there - it's curious that someone put a 2-bbl intake and carb on it.

Sounds like a great candidate for an aluminum manifold & q-jet carb. That little 2 barrel is a great carb but it is leaving many horses in the barn.

Wow, okay... thank you for that info. I do plan on getting it properly built up at some point. Currently I'm working on making sure it starts up. I found I have a bad alternator, and missing the fan and pulley. Baby steps for now.😉
Ty again

You are missing the accel. pump rod on that carb. If you need one I probably have one at my friends shop but I dont get down there very often.
