odd dash lighting issue

Does the dash wiring somehow get power via the same harness as the radio? About a week ago I pulled the old AM radio and didnt drive it or start it since then. Now, I have no dash lights and the temp gauge and alt gauge dont work. Nor does the fuel gauge. Im hoping its simply because I dont have the radio hooked up. Also, the turn signal indicators in the dash stay on now but will flash when I use the signal. I dont have a diagram to go through and verify, thanks for any help

Re: odd dash lighting issue

Make sure the harness is still plugged into the bezel (left side of speedo). I pulled my radio to get to the heater controls and jostled mine loose. Lost most of my dash lights and gauges.

Beyond that, I got nothin'.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: odd dash lighting issue

they do all run from one ground (less then a foot from the cluster plug)
and the grey for the radio/heater light is run the same as the cluster dimmer

if you look back threw my 78 jimmy it will show you more

Re: odd dash lighting issue

It does sound like a ground issue.

Thanks motornut and silver eagle
You guys were right, one lone wire just behind the left A/C vent the ground had simply separated from the terminal that bolts to the E-brake bracket. Turn lights on, dash stop working, touch wire to terminal it jumps back to life.
