Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

Ive been through the fluids and greased the front end & slip yoke. None of the u joints have zerk fittings - assuming these are still the originals. I drove it around a bunch yesterday and today.

Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

Ive read conflicting info about whether or not hubcaps had to be optioned in 1976 - and What the difference was between getting painted caps versus polished.

So far Ive tracked down 1 polished GMC hubcap of the 73-76 style. Anyone with any info or extra caps let me know...

There are some posted on a Facebook group, but they are pricey. Let me see what I can find.

Theres a few on eBay, but they tack on almost as much as the cost of the caps to ship to Canada.

Nice truck! Great find,

I tried to locate a set of hub caps for mine just like those. Found set for sale much rougher than mine. They wanted $495for a set of 4, thus I re did mine. The hub cap you have shown are identical to mine.

My guess is since your truck (it appears has no chrome trim) would have come with painted white hub caps.

I have attached my before and after photos of the hub caps.

Since its a GMC any part-specific parts generally are higher than the comparable Chevy part.

My guess was the chrome front bumper was related to the polished caps.

Wow. Your caps look good. I’d be happy with the before condition!

Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

Now that I think about it a little more I think the mirrors dictated the hubcaps

So if the mirrors are white the hub caps are supposed to be white (at least from the factory).

Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

I had the truck parked outside and it got caught in an early snowfall. I hoped to drive it a bit more this fall, but theyve salted the roads now. Away it goes until April.

Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

Found a 76 GMC sales brochure. Heres the interior page - for those interested in the upholstery- its base Sierra trim level. Neither seat in my truck folds.

Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

I had to really hunt for this photo because base models in original condition are hard to find. Everyone will have an opinion on what to use, but IF there is no PO3 option on spid, it came with these painted hubcaps. This painted hubcap is specific to '73 thru '78 base models only. Yes up to '78 on base models, not up to '75 like the stainless version. The white wheels and white hubcaps and white front bumper will contrast great with the red body and white roof. Here is the correct cap on ebay, not mine https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-1972-G....c100667.m2042 Seller does not have a clue on years used.

Re: Survivor 76 Crew Cab

Thanks for the photo. I don’t see P03 on my spid.

I didn’t know white caps were correct until 1978 for base models, that’s interesting. I’ve been spending a bunch of time looking around at various caps on eBay. I should probably go back and ask to look around the barn the truck was kept in - maybe they’re hiding in a corner.

The hubcaps on my 1976 Sierra Grande 25 don't look quite like that. Other than being weathered, they are shiny/metallic but the black painted sections are short arcs between the metallic "spokes". I have no reason to believe that they are anything but original.

Your crew cab is nice. I wish my 76 still looked that good. I may get it running again someday ….

This postcard shows the difference between the base model hubcap, used on the white truck and the deluxe hubcap used on the higher trim crew cab for '76 '77 and '78 models.https://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-Chevro...wAAOSwTilbdcxp

My 76 Sierra Grande hubcaps are like the crew cab at the bottom.

Im just outside of St Catharines - Niagara Region. The truck was sold new in St Catharines, and possibly the engine was built here, prior to final assembly in Baltimore.

I'm in the Niagara Region too, about 20 min from St Catharines. Amazing find man! Great to see a beauty like this found in the area!

Here is another GMC hubcap. Again, paint scheme is correct and specific to '73-'78. Not mine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/GMC-Dog-Dis...EAAOSwc7td1YrO

Good looking cap. Good price. Lower 48 shipping only. That’s the trouble with most I see. I’ll get something sooner or later.
