Engine Mounts
I have been reading this board for quite a while but this is my first post. I am replacing the engine on my 1996 GMC K1500 with a new GM crate 350. I am about half way done and things are going well. My question is that the motor mounts have a secondary bracket on them in addition to the standard clam single motor mount. The passenger side is missing this second motor mount bracket. What purpose do these serve. I checked GM's web site and I did not recognize the part in the schematic. By checking the numbers on the old engine, it is not the original engine in the truck. I don't have much history on the truck. Maybe someone can shed some light on the subject, like the part name.

Re: Engine Mounts
I'm assuming you're talking about the reinforcement rods and brackets that connect from the engine mount brackets to the bell housing cover since this is a K-truck. Correct?

Re: Engine Mounts
Thanks for the reply. I should have provided more information. The bracket mounts to the part of the engine mount that is attached (bolted) to the engine. It has two holes one for a tab shown in the picture and a second hole that is threaded to be bolted to the engine mount. I am starting to think that this is a bracket for mounting something.

Re: Engine Mounts
It might be for a bracket for trans cooling lines.

Re: Engine Mounts
Maybe that is what it is. My truck does not have transmission cooling lines because it a standard five speed transmission. Because the engine is not the original one in the truck, maybe the engine was out of a automatic transmission. It could also be that GM just puts it on all the trucks, but it is unused on the manual transmission.
