New life for a forgotten K5

I have owned this 1971 2wd K5 since 1994 and tinkered with it alot until 2002 when i got bored with it and put it in a barn behind my parents house, where it sat for almost 10 years untouched. In 2011 I went to GOOD GUYS car show in dallas and seen a truck there that really inspired me to dust off the blazer, little did i know that 2 weeks later i would meet the owner of the truck and talk his ear off about it. He has since helped me to get back on track and start to work updating the blazer. Hopefully this project will go well and I can keep up the momentum on rebuilding an old ride and get her back on the road. Day 1 ends well, the body was removed easier than I ever imagined. Now the hard stuff begins.

Re: New life for a forgotten K5

Looks like just a minimul amount of work to fix the rust, only needs inner rockers fixed and only passenger side kick panel.

Re: New life for a forgotten K5

looks like this stuff will be going to the powder coater on wednesday and hopefully back soon. Frame is just resting on the k-member not attached.
While that stuff is at the coater it's time to clean and paint the motor, back orange with satin black billet specualties front drive.

Yes I bought a set of Billet Specialties Vintecs, 20X8.5 front and 22X10 Rear from N2Billet as well as the PB front suspension and trailing arm crossmember to accomodate the air ride equippment. Seems like I have been buying parts so long for this project that they will almost be old parts before this project ends

They are perfect for the blazer. I've been looking all over for a set for mine.

Re: New life for a forgotten K5

If you don't mind sharing, how much did they quote you to powdercoat the frame? I'm looking for a ballpark so I know how much to budget for mine.

Not sure about just the frame, but my frame, suspension, and pullies an brackets should be around 700.00 unless it takes longer for them to blast all the factory undercoating off the frame then it may be more. Will paint the rear end and spindles.

Re: New life for a forgotten K5

Thanks all for tagging along, i finally got my parts back from powder and ready to get started, but i have to wait for the PB crossmember up front and the trailing arms in the rear. For now i have to finish grinding the motor smooth for paint.

I like how you had your own barn find waiting in the shadows.
Picked a good car to throw in your parents barn instead of selling it off!

Congrats on the new found motivation and your progress looks solid.

Thanks,
It's funny how things happen i never really meant to hang on to the blazer all this time but being in the barn for so long it was kinda out of sight out of mind, But i am glad I still have it.
