Re: My "new" 1968 c20

Painted the white today on the grill and fender . The inner skirt and hood latch I painted with DCC black with a flatner added . It was glossy for a while then flattened to a nice semi .

Thanks it’s been a lot longer than I expected . Started as a spruce up and pretty much became a full resto . Redid the bed

Re: My "new" 1968 c20

Ammo box installed and reworking the hood which had some dents right at the front lip so I decided the easiest way to fix it was to remove the inner brace . Glad I did it was pretty rusted and looked like no paint was applied to the inside of the brace and the front of the hood . Guess I know why the front lip on the hood Rots away. They must have primed after it was assembled

Re: My "new" 1968 c20

Usually not a fan of undercoat but it kept the underside of the hood in great shape where it was applied . I did find two cracks on the two rear hinge nuts easy fix just ran a bead on them . Ran a tap through the blind nuts just to clean them out .

Re: My "new" 1968 c20

Last bit of bodywork the hood . Fixed the leading edge dents and stripped the paint and rust . Going to hit it with the DA tomorrow there are a couple of small dings here and there so I’ll fill them as needed. Best tool I ever bought

Re: My "new" 1968 c20

I have a different brand of the same tool and you're right, they are excellent. It's like a flap disc on steroids. At 30-60 bucks a pop I wish the drums would last longer though. Which grit or style drum did you find the best for paint removal Mark?

This type works the best I start with it and then go to a 100 -120 grit if you go to fine you can heat the metal . I’m going to try the Harbor freight brand drums they look the same but are much cheaper

Re: My "new" 1968 c20

Hopefully I’ll be taking this truck to the SETN in July I’ll have to trailer it 4.57 rear sm465 not highway friendly. But my BIL is using my enclosed trailer to store some furniture because the contractor is repairing his living room and den lots or water damage .
