S10 swap lower steering coupler (rag joint) replacement

My 50 GMC/S10 steering shaft has more angle than the rag joint can handle..what have you used successfully? I think a DD to flat spline coupler should be available but I can't seem to find one. Thanks

That is a c10 steering box, same spline as s10 I think.
Borgeson 033452 ujoint
Borgeson 409536 double d tubing
Above that is a 86 Camaro column, again I think the lower part is same design as s10, the 3rd gen Camaro tilt lower column bolted up in place of the mid '70s C10 3 on the tree column I had before, but check specs before you spend.

I heated the column slip joint to get rid of the plastic, pulled the lower half with the rag joint off, cut the double D tubing to length and done. I have not done anything to replace the plastic in slip joint, there is no radial play but a bit of up and down play at the slip joint which I don't think will affect anything.

I paid $40 for the ujoint 4 years ago and it is $250 on amazon canada now!! good grief, I hope you can find something cheaper

borgeson sells them, look for 30 spline to 3/4 DD universal.

Re: S10 swap lower steering coupler (rag joint) replacement

The rag joints were never intended to be used for correcting the alignement of a steering shaft more than just slightly, they are a shock absorber for the steering wheel. Plus they were and are a cheap simple way to connect a box with a short stub shaft to a steering shaft.

I checked the Borgenson site last night and their prices are up a lot from a couple of years ago. Just like with almost everyting else costs have gone up for them.. https://www.borgeson.com/?utm_source...iAAEgJ7-vD_BwE

The only thing I can say there is get a part number and start shopping that part number for who ever offers the best all around deal for getting it to your door. I'm not in favor of buying some off brand piece to save money here.

Re: S10 swap lower steering coupler (rag joint) replacement

it might be cheaper to buy a rag joint delete lower column,
like hooker1994-04 Gm S10 Steering Shaft
https://www.amazon.ca/Hooker-Blackhe.../dp/B07HWZDY2B

the borgeson s10/gbody lower column is probably cheaper than getting the borgeson joint plus DD tubing:
https://www.borgeson.com/G-Body-F-Bo...ing-Shaft.html

Another option, gbody guys replace their lower column/rag joint with pre '94 jeep cherokee lower column. it bolts in. Since s10 and gbody (and camaro) share a lot of suspension that may work for you too....
