fix hood emblem with broken stud?

Years ago I stumbled across a totally awesome AD cabbed tandem axle Mapleleaf truck abandoned out in the woods. The emblems came home with me.

I want to put the emblems on my half ton. because Canada flag eh.
One side of that old truck hood had lost an argument with something and the last remaining stud parted company from the emblem removing it from the hood.

Anyone have suggestions how to attach the damaged emblem?
I've read of people using a low temp solder to fix emblems, that seems a little weak for this.
Two sided tape perhaps, but the back of the emblem is hollowed out so not a lot of surface area.
A glue? I do want to be able to remove it without destroying it in future, but don't mind so much if the paint needs touch up when that happens.

My best idea so far is a couple small flat head stainless screws right through it and just learn not to look at that detail in future.

Re: fix hood emblem with broken stud?

What size is the depression where the studs "used" to be?
Maybe you could cut a piece of metal that would fit that space, and weld some studs to it.. then epoxy it to the emblem.
Emblem tape would be the next best thing.. cut it to fit the depression..it comes in different thicknesses..flossing fishing linebehind the emblem will separate it from the hood in the future

Re: fix hood emblem with broken stud?

A strip of windshield urethane Might work better though. I've got some 3M double back tape that works pretty good most of the time but last year the heat from the sun on several 100+ days caused it to loose it's grip on the rather spendy tempered glass windhield on my Bayliner and the windshield blew off in a windstorm. I'm going back with urethane. I've used that same tape for a number of things as I had to buy a big roll and it has held spot mirrors on and held some small things but I am not sure I would trust it with that emblem.

Re: fix hood emblem with broken stud?

I'm liking the idea of studs welded to sheet metal and then glued on. I have some thin stainless sheet and stainless machine screws. And the tig welder has been getting dusty.

for plan B, Is thick emblem tape reliable in the weather? I have some double sided tape in various brands and thicknesses. It has plenty of holding power for this but like mr48chev I don't trust it for use outdoors long term. Blind spot mirrors held on with a couple strips seem to come loose after a year or so.

Re: fix hood emblem with broken stud?

mostly, emblems on newer vehicles are simple 2 sided taped and stuck on the paint. they are a real bugger to get off, maybe just get some autobody 2 sided tape, 3m brand seems to be the go to, and stick it on. not that hot up here in Canada so it may be worth a try. if it starts to come off then maybe look at somethng different.

Re: fix hood emblem with broken stud?

Thanks for the good information everyone.
Mongocanfly's suggestion had the most appeal.

I tacked some SS 8-32 machine screws to some thin stainless sheet from the scrap bin and gave the back side some 'tugboat antiskid' for the glue to interface with, cleaned up the recess in the emblem

@Joedoe: fursure mon ami. I finished my poutine, got off the chesterfield, grabbed me tuque n mitts, stuff the sugaring gear in the ol trapper nelson and went out to d sugar bush on the ski-doo, but does trees she all froze up and syrup she not flow! what a kerfluffle. I did not want to wait for breakup or hope for a chinook so I had to use the syncrowave instead. Sadly those were not robertson head screws either. eh
