tailgate lift support bracket thing.....

for a 72 burb....where can i get a pair of these!!!???? i dont know exactly what they are called but they hold up your glass part of your tailgate.......i have to push mines up about 20 - 30 times to disengage it to bring it down..i figure its time for a new set....

Those are salvage yard parts.

You may think about taking them off, then soaking them in a water based de greaser for a while. Then lube them with a fine oil, while working them back and forth to get the dirt and gunk out of the mechanisms.

thanks guys! i'll try lube it up again....i think theres a little piece missing/broken.....there's only a lock piece on one side don't know what happened to the other....thanks again for the help!

I replaced the brackets with the gas tubes as described in the referenced article. Very easy an quick to do. The brackets on my 72 were so worn that the safety catches were unreliable (and unpredictable!). I used to prop the window open with a broomstick before I would stick my neck under what felt like a guillotine. This was a very nice mod.
