Okay Burb Gurus !!!!

As most of you know I'm hunting for a Burb and am still looking. My question is why is it that on some 69 Burbs the factory A/C vents come out of the dash as do the 72's and rear air is mounted at the back just inside the rear doors/tailgate and some have that roof mounted thing that goes from front to back. Now I always thought the roof mount was a dealer installed item but a guy sends me spid pic and the 69 Burb has roof air and the code C69 is on the spid. The only thing I can think of is that there might have been a mid-year change-up in the factory A/C installs. Any one ?????????

Re: Okay Burb Gurus !!!!

I've always felt that the roof mounted AC was an OEM option from the factory, along with the dash vented (center, and left/right corner vented) AC.

While the under dash AC units (Typically made by ARA) were dealer add on or aftermarket from an owner, these units under the dash contained the vents for air and the blower motors. So they are easy to spot, since they are big and bulky.

I know the under dash units are dealer installed and from my experience the add-on kits from that era never worked as good as factory installed stuff. So are you saying that if you had the factory roof mounted A/C the factory still put in the dash vents ? The Burb I'm looking at has the roof A/C with no dash vents and the Spid says " C69 Air Conditioning Roof Mounted". My confusion is that I recently looked at another 69 Burb and by the Spid it had factory A/C with the dash vents and no roof mount.

Re: Okay Burb Gurus !!!!

I could be wrong (Someone usually shows me that I am), but I believe Suburbans ONLY had dash A/C up until 1970. In 1971 the A/C was the long unit that runs the length of the body. In 1972 the rear A/C was a seperate option from the dash A/C so there were burbs with dash but not rear A/C; rear but not dash A/C, and most commonly both dash and rear A/C. I dont know if it was like that in 1971 but I would assume it was. My 72 burb has both A/C's and I know there is a member on here that has a 72 with rear but not dash. Hope this helps.

Re: Okay Burb Gurus !!!!

My understanding is that the long roof mounted a/c was used from 67-71 and only 72s got the dash/rear a/c setup.

I'm under this same assumption from what I know having researched this when I bought my 72.
