The 57 is Home!

Well the 57 finally made it home on Monday.............what a pain. You would think that when someone says that they would be there to pick it up with a car trailer, one would say that everything is just sitting on the frame and not bolted down. Oh yea, and that we have no idea where ANY of the bolts are at. Its a good thing that I carry about 6-3" ratchet straps with me all the time. Well the trip home was uneventful except for all the stares and smiles. I started in on removing some of the parts stacked in the bed and cab and have a question for some of the experts. I'm new to the early Chevy short beds and the bed is not complete. So here's the ??, is there a matching front crossill that looks just like the rear? And thats what holds the bed on the frame, right? Is there a channel that the center crossills go into? Is there any good photos of the frame work for the shortbed that I can check out?

Any help would be kewl! Oh yea, there is NO rot anywhere on this cab, just alot of stupid bad repairs.

Re: The 57 is Home!

Prepare to enjoy your new project.

There is no front cross sill. That function is performed by the front bed panel. It is attached to the frame through the cross sills. They are held in place with the bed strip bolts. When you get to that part you will be able to figure it out but that is pretty far down the road in the restoration sequence.

As others have said. Pictures Please. We love old truck porn.

Yes it was the one on ebay, and yes I know about pics, but havent had much time this week. This weekend I have to go to my getaway house in Lake Isabella, I sold our 26 Tudor body on ebay and the guy is coming to pick it up on Saturday. Thats where the $$$ came from for the 57. Heres a pic of the 26.

Re: The 57 is Home!

I know the feeling, when I picked up my 50 the cab and bed were just sitting on the frame, luckily I had bolts and straps for all the loose parts for the 1300 mile trip home. good luck with the project
