Ive been running a 3.42 in my c10 for a few years now. I had a Muncie 4 speed and then upgraded to a tremec 500. They advertise the tremec 500 with using up to 3.42- higher and then the tremec 600 from 3.73-lower. I want to put a 3.73 in the rear to spin the wheels better and also for towing purposes.. does this sound like a bad idea?

I am putting a tremec 500 in my 65 c10 with 3:73 gears. After talking to the transmission people at Silver Sport Transmission and using the calculator the 500 seems best suited for my 327 and tire size. I have not installed it yet did you have to modify the cab floor at all or did it fit ok? Pat |

Its close but it fits fine with no issues. Thanks for the info. I too bought from silver sport trans.. I prolly should of asked them myself, never thought of it. Thnaks

I like a mid 3,s gear....with that low 1st gear, I would try it....see how she does? With the Richmond & 4.10,s, she was really "jumpy" in town traffic! I would have to ask about tire height, as that does mess with the ratio longhorn

I have 28" tall tires. Based on rpm calculators that I mess with, it seems okay.. I have the gears already. Bought them a while ago but that was for a different project.

Hey I had a question on the tremec 500 install. How hard was it to align the bell housing to their specificatios of 0.005? Dis you have to by additional bell housing stubs? Pat |

I put that into consideration but never did the whole spec thing. I just used my original bell housing and stabbed it in. It seems to be fine. I have about 10000 mile on it now. |

I think im gonna do the 3.73. Worse comes to worse I go back to the 3.42 if I think its to much. What tire size are you running?

Right now the tires are 265 75 R15 but I plan on installing disc brakes and changing the wheel bolt pattern to 5 x 5 and running a 16 or 17 inch rim. I haven't quite decided yet. What size are you running?

28" (265/60/15)tall tire tires. I haven't gone the discs in the rear yet but thats in the near future. Eventually I'll contact Captainfab for some brackets.

I also wanted to ask are you running the original clutch set up or hydraulic set up. It looks like the original set up on mine might interfere with the headers..

Are you running headers. How did you fit the Z bracket around the exhaust manifold?

I believe the OP has a '67-'72 which has a little different clutch linkage than the '63-'65. If your engine is in the correct factory location for a small block and you have either the Hedman 69260, 69090 or Hooker 2452's, your original clutch linkage including the bellcrank will work. The 69260's are made for the '55-'72 trucks and give you the most room for the clutch linkage

I have read on other posts from you that the C20/C30 engine perches fit nicely on our trucks. Would those perches give any more room for headers and clutch linkage. If so do you have any for sale? |

Oh I almost forgot my 327 has a cracked block so I am swapping over to a LS 5.3 and fitting it with my TKO 500. Will those headman headers fit the LS engine?

The LS engines do not have a place for the ballstud for the bellcrank to pivot on. All LS engines with manual transmissions had a hydraulic clutch. I do make a hydraulic clutch conversion for the '63-'66 trucks. No I do not have any '73-'87 C20/30 engine mounts for sale.

I took mongocanfly's advice and bought an advanced adapter bracket for the ball stud. It bolts onto the bellhousing. I am trying to keep the original linkage if I can. If it does not work out I will PM you for the hydraulic set up. Thanks for all of your responses. |
