low fuel light with full tank?

in my 01 ecsb my fuel guage and low fuel light have been acting up, i filled my tank and the low fuel light came on and the guage read empty, after driving for about 10 min the light went off and the guage was reading full, now when im driving the fuel light will come on and off and the guage jumps from full to empty even though the tank is full. whats going on? do i need a whole new pump or just a sending unit?

you probably only need the sending unit but what you have to do to change it you might wanna do the whole pump plus i don't think they sell just the sending unit alone

X2, bad sending unit. Just replace the whole pump module with a GM or Delphi replacement, stay away from the parts store ones. Rockauto.com has pretty good prices.

i would try the gm fuel treatment from the dealer first. the fuels today attack the sensor and sulfer builds on them. the fuel treatment has stuff in it to clean the sensor. ive used it many times and usually works good.
