Re: New Project at Musclerodz - '68 K20

Truck cab was blasted today and was worse than originally thought. Economically not feasible to repair unfortunately. Amazingly everything else is in very nice condition. Everything should be blasted by the weekend. Now to start hunting a cab.

Re: New Project at Musclerodz - '68 K20

Been awhile since an update. Cab was full of rust in the cowl area so we started looking for a better cab. Could not find one that did not need any less work than what we already had.

I had a '72 GMC cab we had purchased for the A/C system, cab was junk or so I thought. One we got it disassembled, found the cowl area was in excellent shape so we took 2 cabs and made on good one. Pics show the cabs tacked together. Rust repair has already started and will also being installing a new correct 67-68 firewall. Now that the '57 Chevy we restored is done, updates on this truck should be more frequent.

Very nice work! 1 thing though you should cover the tires and wheels EVEN if they are junkers. Just shows attention to detail. AND I have a pet peave about it, I lent some spare tires and wheels to a friend so he could get his truck painted, I got painted tires and wheels back.

Re: New Project at Musclerodz - '68 K20

Here is a few more pics of the recent repairs. Front cab supports fixed, inner rocker drop offs both sides, both "A" pillars repaired, both outer rockers, and the radio area repaired. All that is left is to replace the 71-72 firewall with a 67-68 firewall, and the right cab corner. Enjoy!

I have a non-tilt, manual trans, power steering column that is complete if you are still looking for one. I am in southern california so not sure how much shipping would be but let me know if your still looking for one.

Re: New Project at Musclerodz - '68 K20

Cab is finished with the cab corner repaired, and the new 67-68 firewall installed in place of the 72 firewall that was removed. I now have a 100% RUST FREE A/C cab. This was not the cheap way to go about it, but every cab we found needed similar amounts of needed repair, just in different locations. Also by doing what we did, we did not tamper with the vin to the truck.

Thanks everyone. I should have updates on the chassis very soon. I am in the middle of finishing the paint on the suspension so I can start assembly. Most everything is sitting here ready to install.

Fenders and doors ready for sealer and color. I had the front clip reblasted yesterday and will be starting body work Monday. We are priming the bed today.

Re: New Project at Musclerodz - '68 K20

This is gonna be a sweet truck! Exellent work!

Just for my own curiosity. What the differences between a 68 and a 72 firewall?

Cool! I'm curious about the drivetrain.

Cool! I'm curious about the drivetrain.
The stamping is different on the driver side and also has some different hole locations. You can kind of see the difference in the pics in post 55 and post 62. Minor differences the casual observer would never catch, but someone who knows these trucks would catch. It will be very hard to figure out now that the front clip is from a '72.

The drivetrain is a rebuilt 327, NV4500 5 speed with hyd clutch, rebuilt 205 transfer case, 73 front dif with disc brakes, HO52 rear.

Re: New Project at Musclerodz - '68 K20

just found this build... nice work so far... Wonder if that hidden object was an OSHA requirement?

I say that it was the original owner's stash for those "chance" encounters at the Saloon after the rodeo! You are in OK right?

Front bed panel was replaced today. Looked good until it was closely examined and was starting to rot through at the roll on top of the panel.
