Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
Tyler, pretty cool you did the demolition derby. Great fun I'm sure!
Anyone know about junk car racing? Not demo derby but with similarities. It's an actual race to win, or survive, with defensive tactics (or is it lack of curtesy?). In the mid-90s a friend who was an excavating contractor used to run sprint cars. He had a sweet black & yellow 2-tone 3+3 K30 to match his race car. He did well. But when junk car racing got started up at some local tracks he started racing a '75 Monte Carlo. Said it was the most fun he ever had behind the wheel. This gal I dated (while separated) ran a late-70s Malibu wagon painted like a Holstein cow. Not sure which attracted me more, her long black hair or that wagon. Not a lot of rules on vehicle other than no glass, fuel shut-off switch, and battery in the trunk. The best part is you can bring a passenger! I rode along a few times, insanely fun!! Check it out:

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
Tim my BIL and I ran something similar called 2 man cruisers.
It was a stock car race where the driver ran the wheel and the brakes, the passenger was the gas man. Rules were no Chevy cars or motors, 4 door only, 2bbl only, we ran a 70 Cutlass 4 dr that we dropped a 71 455 olds into. Handled terrible, went like hell on the straights. 80s B bodies seemed to do the best, We did finish 2nd one race. Only did one year, it was great fun, lots of yelling back and forth!

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
I really want to try to go to this, this year.
Vintage (20s/30) hot rods and bikes racing in NJ on the beach. They call it T.R.O.G. - traditional race of gentlemen. I believe there is a west coast chapter too somewhere in socal. If you search for it on youtube there's some pretty neat videos. https://www.theraceofgentlemen.com/

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
Keep forgetting about bonneville! I really want to make it out there at least once still. It seems a little hard to plan a trip though, because it seems it's been cancelled by rain quite a few times in the past few years?

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
My favorite was NASCAR but I kind of lost interest for awhile until Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot came along!!! My others are my oldest son's racing. He won the AMA district 36 amateur 450 class flat track championship last year. He also races 500cc Open Winged Outlaw Karts and has raced against Kyle Larson! I road raced 100cc Yamaha Karts at Sears Point, Thunderhill, Button Willow, and Willow Springs. I really miss racing my kart!!

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
Ok lets see if I can fix this post.
My favorite is Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I havent been for a few years thanks to Covid, weather issues down there, and dang its a long drive down and back, around 1800 miles give or take. Used to go with my brother and a couple of buddies, but they pooped out on me quite a few years ago. Mostly Ive been going by myself. I did take one of my sons one year, and my two nephews another. Might try and go again this year and see if my grandson wants to go. Anyway here are some old pics I have here in my board gallery.

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
I wonder how those guys get their cars clean/stay nice after? Mike Finnegan claims the OG Roadkill ramp truck was completely rust free and solid until they used it as a push truck at bonneville for a couple days. He's having the entire truck repainted/restored (it's been cummins swapped too) and if I remember right they ended up replacing the entire front clip, all 4 doors, and it needed inner and outer rockers. Maybe it wasn't as rust free as he originally remembered?

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
How about stock car racing on the salt flats and the asphalt mile? The guys at The Garage Shop in Denver, North Carolina have built a couple of modernized 1969 Wing'd race cars of the year and ran them this year at top speed events like Blytheville, Ark and the Bonneville salt flats. The cars are the Talladega Torino and the Dodge Daytona with the Bobby Isaac livery on it. I think 216 mph for one and 228 for the other. The guys live and breath stock car racing and all of them have substantial car building experience with teams like DEI, Penske and others.

Here is the motorsport I'm involved in. Can't afford the big ones but this gets the adrenaline going just the same.

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
What salt that gets thrown up can't be nearly as bad as the salt thrown up mixed with water that mixes and packs in the nooks and crannies with road grit that hold the moisture
Hey Mark. Glad to see the pictures again!

That is one of my bucket list items. I would have taken my Camaro already except for the one obvious issue. The salt. I’ve read a good bit on some of the other forums about the hell the salt can cause long term on the cars that run at Bonneville. Mine has never seen salt and had no rust any where. I intend to keep it that way. I would still love to go as a spectator some day.

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
As a non participant one could go in a rental car. Or, I suppose, one could enter a rental car and make some runs, just for fun and bragging rights..

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
Rental car companies in the surrounding area, especially Salt Lake, are well aware of Speed Week. You arent supposed to drive on the salt with their cars. They are all checked on return and if there is salt inside or out you are charged a hefty premium. It takes a vey long time to get all the salt from inside and out

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
I've only seen magazine coverage of Bonneville. Thanks CG, for the personal pictures. Somehow it makes it seem more real, and those high-speed aero cars even more outlandish. But there are a bunch of other cool cars there too.

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
So many motorsports to choose! I am a drag racer first from way back but I have also been into dirt bikes, quads, and the demo derby pics in here made me smile as I have done that several times too! I do help out on a couple of cars that go to Bonneville for speed week and I recommend anyone who can go and see it in person needs to. It is just such a different event than any other motorsport. Very friendly people and so many cool things to see!

Re: What's Your Favorite Motorsport?
I like to watch lots of motorsports from flat track to IMSA. Went to RIR in Richmond for both races every years for a long time. Stopped going about 10 years ago. I have been a long time drag racer running brackets and super gas. I am building a new 1989 Firebird now for bracket racing. I also crew chief a 1963 Corvette that my engine builder runs in PDRA Pro Outlaw 632. Check us out on Facebook. Coleman motorsports. If you like fast door cars come out to a PDRA race.
