Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Today I used a spray in bed liner kit on the cab floor. I plan l to eventually put in the poly 1/8" thick deal from LMC, but until then I'll drive it like it is. Driver not show for me. Before/After And I can't figure out how to get these photos to appear upright on this phone sorry.

VERY NICE all ! .

I like the floor coating , maybe I'll try that after you check in with how well it works .

To - day I walked past my truck with tools & parts for different jobs .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I wish my laptop would upload pics but with dad's help, I drilled out the 8 rivets holding my driver's side grill bracket and removed that side's hood bumper. I also painted one of the replacement grill brackets I'll go back with.

I settled on a NOS cowl I hope to pick up soon and found out from a forum member how the 1972 grill should look around the headlights.

I also cleaned out the ERR tank for a run on the old grill brackets tomorrow.

Drove mine out for a relaxing trip, around 200 miles.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

One thing led to another, took fenders off to adjust doors, new body and radiator support mounts, clean engine compartment and fix oil leaks. Powder coated a bunch of parts, will paint radiator support, frame and motor.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Last two days:

Stripped down the front bumper brackets and hardware, and was happy to see everything is super. Thought there might be some rust on the outer brackets I scored off Ebay................. just a really bad paint job.

Removed the duct system. Taking notes, cleaning these pieces up and boxing them up nicely is a project in itself. I don't know how some can work so fast. But I'm new.

I never really have anything worth a picture. Someday, hopefully in bulk to some extent.

Off topic, what, dealerships and even Amazon running at half speed now? WTH, it takes forever to get my orders. Everything is back ordered and/or slow. Caswell and Eastwood couldn't be any slower. Had the week off and was "supposed" to actually finish something. Looking forward to testing out Caswell's cold oxide product. Planning to use it for small hardware parts you don't readily see (e.g, J-nuts, tiny screws). Ordered the sealer, which many folks say don't. You do have to seal it, and I figure it's their product line. $17 for a qt. will go a long way.

I've noticed the slowdown also. Autobody toolmart is taking over a week before they even ship! Eastwood just recently had a major fire, and they've been trying to recover since. I called them when some stuff I ordered never showed up, and found out they are backlogged on a lot of stuff.

Might seem like a dumb question but how did you go about putting your cab on its back without bending the cab corners ? I plan to undercoat my bottom, but worry that if I just roll it backwards I could bend the new cab corners.

I lifted mine through the cab doors.

There is a type of beam you can buy to use a engine hoist.

I have a cheap gantry (Northern tool) and used two 2x4's bolted together through the door openings(rags wraped around the 2x4's to protect the paint, a strap around the ends and a friend to guide the process.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

All I got done today (yesterday) was to prime and top coat my once very rusty passenger side grill bracket. I won't use it over but I'll hang onto it as a spare. I also top coated a heater box piece, albeit the wrong color! That's how tired I am after welding class....but it won't be seen so it's OK. I also got my hood bumper bolts apart....took their nuts off.

I fabricated a makeshift brackets that screwed to the bottom of the dash. It was a PIA. When I installed my Vintage Air removed it because I didn't want to mess with redoing one of the brackets. I pitched it out and went with an arm feast with cup holders.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I spent most of the day cleaning the inside of my car and cleaning the battery terminals.

On the truck, the rain was so bad that I didn't paint the remaining grill bracket. I did however turn the hood bumpers on a wire wheel to clean up. Oddly enough one is shorter than the other and they are not the same design.
