On a good day I have 16" at idle. I may be wrong about the load it's under, but it sounds like it's at wide open throttle at those speeds....I love it. It's a fun truck to drive, 283,m-21,4.11. It's loud, violent, revs hard...but not much danger in it getting away from you

I believe I've got it as close as the kit will let me. According to the chart a metering rod I don't have might be worth trying, but other than that I'm satisfied. I changed to the pink springs and that made a HOOGE difference all around. I had an off idle issue I didn't even realize till I put them in.

Right now the truck is performing better than it ever has the entire time I've owned it, that probably means something is about to let loose. I appreciate everyone's input!

Re: Tuning edelbrock carburetor

Some cams will struggle to have much vacuum at idle.

Might make sure the vacuum advance pot on the dizzy is working. A bad one can really mess up part throttle response.

Sounds like it is time to put a few miles on it and let it tell you if it still needs more tuning. Might check the plugs in a few hundred miles and make sure the color looks good.

Your step-up springs are rated for half of your idle vacuum. So at 16" of vac you should be using the silver or the pink spring, which ever works better for you.

Re: Tuning edelbrock carburetor

1404's are 500 CFM.
1405's are 600 CFM.
I use a 1404 on the 292 L6 in my '68 C/10 Stepside.
I have a Carter AFB 9605S [=Edl-1405, 600 CFM] on the 350 V8 in my '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500.
I prefer manual choke.
